3. Yes. I hope the folks in Dean's path will be ok, but looking at the
weather charts, it just doesn't look very encouraging, does it.

4. No, and I also worry about the pets.
I wonder if Mexico lets them into shelters. :(

12. On a handful of trips to Mexico, I had the pleasurable acquaintence of
lots and lots of dogs -- stray ones, well-kept ones -- lots of 'em.

In some of the small fishing villages the kids "parent" the strays and watch after them. I hope they do that for those dogs in the next few days.

Dean means business.

16. Animals have a "sense" about these things, and hopefully
they will flee to higher ground.. Extremely poor people often do not have the ability to care for pets like we do here .:(

I worry about them too

5. We should all be pleased it missed Texas and will hit Mexico:
I have been told that there are more Mexicans in Texas than in Mexico. This will come as a surprise to a) Mexico and b) Texans of Mexican descent who are US citizens.

14. Oh, you said such a hurricane.
The last Cat 5 landfall in the Western Hemisphere was Andrew in 1992.

17. Looks like supergiant oilfield Cantarell could be directly in its path.
Edited on Mon Aug-20-07 09:19 PM by roamer65
If it keeps a WNW path, that should land it very close to Mexico's largest oilfield. Cantarell is WNW of Dean in the Bay of Campeche.

25. Something that makes it even worse
The circular sustained winds are 160mph. The forward motion has been about 17 to 20 mph. On the right hand quandrant, you can add that to the circular speed, making the effective onslaught 180mph, m/l. On the bright side, since its moving forward quickly, the winds won't be around as long.

Best wishes for a safe night for those affected
