Anti-Immigrant sentiment fuel KKK resurgence
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 10:59 PM by Lost-in-FL

The Ku Klux Klan appears to be on the rise again after years of irrelevance and splintered obscurity.

"Due to the successful exploitation of hot-button issues," the Klan has seen "a surprising and troubling resurgence," states a new report by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

"If any one single issue or trend can be credited with reenergizing the Klan, it is the debate over immigration in America," says Deborah Lauter, the ADL's civil rights director. "New groups sprouting in parts of the country that have not seen much activity."

In addition to the South, where the Ku Klux Klan was founded by Confederate Civil War veterans in 1866, this now includes active or growing Klan chapters in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

2. It's really interesting
how the southern borders did not become an issue important enough to be dealt with seriously until immigation began to offend the racists of middle America.
It has been something worthy of examination for a very long time. The new urgency to is the result of hate not some kind of mass influx.

6. So are all Mexican kids racists?
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 05:09 PM by Lost-in-FL

Or do you mean the Hispanic kids in American schools who are taught to hate whites AND blacks, and perpetrate violence on non-Hispanic kids on a daily basis? Just read what's being taught to Mexican kids here in America, and then wonder why they're so racist

Dude, you need to lay of the crack??

of your own shadow. Generalizing from a few kooks like the anti-semites at aztlan.net, or the crazies at mexica movement represents a serious lack of judgment. That, or a hate-monger. I suspect you're simply too frightened to think clearly. Aztlan.net represents at most three people, though I know only two of them. The mexica movement is bit larger, a core of one guy and two sycophants who hang around to hit on the highschool girls who fall in and out of the "movement". A more representative activity among those who seek their indigenous roots are the danzantes, e.g., http://www.danzantes.org/home.htm. That's what's being taught to kids today, not the stuff you're crowing about.

By the way, the UCLA link goes to a 1971 document, posted by the University as an historical resource, not in promulgation of the post's positions. If you were to read a contemporaneous political platform like a 1964 George Wallace would you consider that representative of today's Democratic Party? Of course not, you'd say it's an historical document, not a mirror of today's partisans.

You render your ire laughable by using "Hispanic." These pendejos at aztlan.net and mexica movement aren't "Hispanics". They can't be. There's no such people as "Hispanic". Here's a parallel for you. All the hubbub about Shrub and his henchassholes referring to the Democratic Party as "Democrat Party" is identical to you referring to Chicanas Chicanos Latinas Latinos as "Hispanic". It's just plain incorrect. In your defense, there's no agreement on an appropriate identity term, but a plurality of folks agree that "Hispanic" ain't right.

Here are a couple of personal counterstatements to what you misbelieve about the Chicano community.

When I read your post above I can't help but think you've fallen off the edge. Maybe you're having a bad day. Check out the image below of a television comikkk who went off the edge, too. You sound a lot like this fool:

I hope you feel better soon.

8. You know, silverojo, I have read your racist comments about Hispanics
on many threads.

You have outdone yourself here.

You are smearing the most gentle people on the planet.

I hope you get your race war because that's apparently what you want. For my part, I will be working to take care of my community.

Beth

13. Unfortunately, there's a similar problem in the UK
Not the KKK of course, but our own far-right racist groups, of which the most influential is the British National Party. This party has no representatives in Parliament, but has had a few on local councils. Hatred for all immigrants, asylum-seekers and ethnic minority groups is their keynote.

Even beyond the BNP problem, the tabloid press in Britain makes a career of whipping up hatred against immigrants. And, while it's 'immigrants' that they focus on, if you look Asian, a bunch of white thugs may not stop to check whether you are an immigrant, or born in the UK like your parents and grandparents before you.

Racist attitudes and policies are also found with some right-wing Tories (thankfully, the Tories' attempts to exploit anti-immigrant prejudices backfired on them in the 2005 election); UKIP (UK Independence Party; ostensibly a single-issue anti-EU-membership party, but in fact a refuge for disaffected right-wing Tories); and regrettably, some Labourites.

14. I'm sorry to hear that. Been watching the situation in the UK and in France
and all I can say is, because the US is a bigger land mass, our haters aren't as overtly obvious.

It should be a really interesting century. :(
