Frozen toddler's father also faces sex charge
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/08/toddler.death.ap/index.html

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A man angry his toddler daughter wouldn't go to bed knocked her unconscious and left her to die outside in single-digit temperatures, police said.

The frozen body of Nyia Miangel Page, who was about to turn 2, was found Sunday at an abandoned playground about a 10-minute walk from the family's home.

Tiny footprints in the snow suggest she had gotten up and wandered around before she died, police said.

Her father, William Lorenzo Page, 23, of Braddock, was arrested Wednesday on charges of criminal homicide, kidnapping, false reports and simple assault.

He has been in custody since Sunday, when he was charged with sexually abusing another child shortly before Nyia died. <snip>

This is such a horrible story. In the article, it seems that he was molesting another child in the house that night, and that's what woke the toddler up in the first place.

My God.
He's a sick man. I feel evil, but I'm so angry that I hope he gets the same thing done to him in prison. Beaten and left for dead in a meat freezer. There is no justice for a story like this.

4. Oh that poor baby!
I can barely stand to imagine what she went through that night she died--and probably many other nights before that.

Tiny footprints in the snow... Oh my god.

20. How about being knocked unconscious and left outside in sub-zero temps.
That's a fitting punishment, imo.

8. As I read this story...
...I found myself fantasizing that *I* had been their neighbor, and that
I might have spotted her and rescued her from the snow.

I know she's warm tonight, wrapped in blankets with angels--and feeling
forgiveness and peace about this world--in beautiful ways that we
can't possibly imagine.

10. "Tiny footprints in the snow suggest she had gotten up and wandered around before she died, "
That sentence will linger in my mind for a long time to come. Let's hope it's BURNED into the mind of that CREEP, till his dying day!

16. I wouldn't bet on it.
Although it's hard to imagine him lasting a single day in stir. But that image of "tiny footprints in the snow" is still vivid to me. I'm not a card-carrying Christian, so I'm not going to go into any "angels in heaven" routine. But death by hypothermia, is probably the most merciful way to go. That's to be thankful for. When I was about 4~5 years old, I broke out in tears, when that story of The Little Match Girl was read to me. Over 70 years ago, and the memory returned to me after reading that news item.

23. Just for the record...
...I'm not a "card-carrying Christian".

However, for a small fee, I will perform my "angels in heaven routine"
at birthday parties or retirement celebrations.

18. guessing a dig at the far-far-right fringe religious right
that seriously thinks that folks should only marry to procreate and that single folks who don't marry and have kids are a serious problem to society.

It isn't a common expression - but at least one high profile religious right figure (can't remember which) has been associated with such statements.
