3. I became a Democrat after 20 years as a Libertarian
My son's deployment to Iraq in 2003.Hearing some rumors of botched intelligence made me look at alternative websites. My husband and I divorced because of the stress of our son's second deployment.I became an angry woman as I peeled the layers and learned more about the corruption of the Republicans.
I became even angrier as my son's ptsd became evident.I will always be a Democrat.

8. Because I believe we have a responsibility to form a government
for ALL the people, one based on respect for our Constitution and equality for all of our citizens.

Because I think we have a responsibility to work toward seeing none of our fellow citizens hungry, homeless or without medical care.

Because I do NOT believe government has a right to make my private medical decisions. My bedroom, and my uterus, are my own business.

Because I uphold the Establishment clause of the 1st Amendment.

14. BeCAUSE the Democraticic party IS a big tent!!1
We are not a monolithic THING. We are a large group of sub-groups, each with its own #1 and #2 or so agenda items, with some sub-groups' #1 items possibly even conflicting with other sub-groups' #1 items, all the groups perhaps not reaching full consensus until down the line where broad principles of social justice, civil rights, equal rights, and humanitarianism binds us all. So, union members might find it hard to believe that Dems living in the border regions supported NAFTA.

Sorry, can't concentrate anymore. Neighbors are partying, parking in front of my house, and even have thrown a beer can over the fence and into my yard.

17. No other party has ever done a goddamned thing for a working person
Even Roosevelt's trust busting was aimed at making a more level playing field for rich cronies, and his national park system was aimed at wealthy men who could afford to take time off and buy extensive equipment needed to explore unspoiled back country.

That's why I'm a Democrat.

38. LOL !!! - We Were Sort Of The Political Black Sheep Of Our Extended Family...
Don't get me wrong, even though all my Aunts, Uncles, Cousins (about half the cousins), and my Grandparents were Republicans, and we were the only Democrats, we all loved each other very much and couldn't wait for family reunions. Heh... lots of great table-talk.

But they were Republicans, Nelson Rockefeller type Republicans, but Republicans nonetheless.

These days... not so much.

Funny that.

and it is the only way to properly protect the rights and responsibilities of American citizens. It is the most open form of government, and the one that requires the most participation. Secrets and populations kept ignorant have done in other, more arrogant regimes.

27. I'm a democrat because:
I believe in the value of people, not property.

I believe in helping the less fortunate, not the more fortunate.

I believe in the workers, not corporations.

I believe in peace, not war.

I believe in health care for everyone, not just the rich.

I believe in feeding the hungry, not the defense contractors.

I believe that together, we can achieve our dreams of truly becoming the Greatest Nation on Earth.

35. Because
I am a Democrat because I believe in the human values and the respect for individual rights and freedoms behind our Constitution.

I believe in the strength of the "United We Stand" part of the United States of America. I do not believe in misusing that strength to opportunistically shelter, advance (puppeteer) or invade other nations.

I believe in free enterprise to the benefit of the individual AND the collective (public good) rather than the profiteering paradigm that Republicans twist and distort out of capitalism.

I believe in truth.

36. I'm compassionate, not a selfish Republican bigot
I believe government has a purpose beyond defending the country (or starting never-ending wars).

We can and should have health care for everyone without the stress of not having it that makes people sicker

We outght to help people who are having trouble making it, not using them as people to look down upon to make us feel superior (Republicans do this)

I believe in equal rights for everyone, not just straight white males.

Democrats will support my issues, Republican will try to make my life miserable. The choice is easy.
