Central Florida Restaurant Plans Fundraiser For Arrested Astronaut
Nowak Celebrated Return From Space At Cocoa Beach Establishment


COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- An Italian restaurant that served up a post-landing dinner for Lisa Nowak and her family is staging a benefit this weekend to raise money for the arrested astronaut, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

"We have a special affection for Lisa because of her Italian descent and the fact that after her first space shuttle mission, her family decided to celebrate her return in our restaurant," said Tony Bless, co-owner of Silvestro's of Cocoa Beach.

"It's really sad what's happened, but I know she'll get through it with faith and family and friends," he said. "It's just a matter of perseverance, and she'll come out of this."

Nowak became a favorite at Silvestro's after she flew aboard Discovery during NASA's second post-Columbia test flight, which landed July 17 at Kennedy Space Center.

Bless said Nowak's parents, Alfredo and Jane Caputo of Rockville, Md., dined at Silvestro's the night before Discovery's landing.
