Little League players caught spitting in their hands before shaking hands at end of game
Two players caught on national TV sullying the post-game handshakes with their opponents prompted reaction and apologies.

By Mary Lynn Smith and Jake Sherman, Star Tribune

Last update: August 24, 2007 – 11:33 PM

Under the glare of the national spotlight, Coon Rapids Little Leaguers got caught with spit on their hands.

After a bruising 9-2 loss Wednesday in the Little League World Series, two of the team's star players were captured on ESPN spitting into their hands before exchanging handshakes with the team from Chandler, Ariz.

The bad sportsmanship caught teammates, coaches and parents by surprise, prompted a series of apologies, launched tirades in blogs and e-mails and has experts suggesting that this is a "teaching moment" about how to be a good sport.

Parents and league officials point out that the offenders on the team of 12- and 13-year-olds are "just kids," but they also quickly note that they need to be accountable for their actions.

15. Fertile Woman Dies in Climax
The town of Fertile, population 853, sits about 19 miles southeast of Crookston on state highway 32; Climax, with 273 listed residents, sits to the west of there on US 75, some thirty miles away. An elderly lady from the former small town expired in the latter, leading to an obituary caption in the paper that read, in bold letters: "Fertile Woman Dies in Climax." Probably the longest-lived journalistic gaffe in the entire state, and one that must have brought at least mortification to its author. You'd hope so anyway.

And I am certain that their coach and their parents were mortified about what happened.

To bad that 2 bad apples spoiled their great run.

But...these are only kids. Kids have bad judgement sometimes.

21. I have done worse.
I used to put my hands in my pants and itch myself before doing the hand shake at the end of a game, thank god ESPN was not there to film it.
