KO Came In 4th Last Night
That's what happens when you don't advertise

“At 7 p.m. ABC was first with a 2.0 for a repeat of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” followed by CBS with a 1.5 for “60 Minutes.” Fox was third with a 1.4 for a repeat of “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader,” NBC fourth with a 1.3 for “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” Univision fifth with a 0.7 for “Hora Pico” and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a “Smallville” rerun”

1. Maybe next time the network will push the show
Given a fair chance the show would succeed on network TV but it got little to zero promotion on the big network and a 1.3 is pretty decent for a show that wasn't promoted and had to lead into football.

2. I Agree
When you have a last minute decision, you need to put the word out.

4. It'snot going to be promoted. GE owns NBC. This is simply an INSURANCE move for them.
They want to be positioned as the slightly to the left, must-see TV station, when the Dems own the government come 2009.

They're making sure they're on the "right" left side, to make things easier for themselves. If they let it roll even though they KO's show has low ratings, they look better over the long haul--like they give a shit about diversity or what have you.

KO is on contract, his salary is paid--so it's a cheap solution for them, too. Cheaper than slapping together a multi-anchored, multi-story, Sunday news program effort.

6. That's just the 18-49 demo, which is important, but
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 08:15 PM by BerryBush
the show finished third in total viewers. Beating Fox.

And to add: Considering how many stations didn't air it in the 7 pm timeslot, that's not bad. And it's still way more viewers than Bill O'Reilly can dream of.

7. Countdown On NBC Does DOUBLE O'Reilly's Ratings
Last night's broadcast of Countdown on the mothership, NBC, was a major coup for Keith Olbermann and his MSNBC program.

(snip)
The ratings leader, Bill O'Reilly, averages about 2 million viewers a day. The lowest rated network news program (CBS) pulls in over 6 million. So graduating to the network opens millions of doors to a cablecaster.

Olbermann, not surprisingly, benefited from this. The early results show him with 4.1 million viewers. That only earned him a third place finish, behind "60 Minutes" and "America's Funniest Videos," but it was good enough to quadruple his average MSNBC audience. What's more, (and this has to hurt) it is twice what Bill O'Reilly does on an average night. And this despite having been preempted in some fairly significant markets (i.e. Philadelphia, Baltimore) which could adversely impact Countdown’s numbers.

8. He'll build a wider audience on network tv - that's what he did w/Countdown on MSNBC.
This was a maiden voyage. More to come.

9. "Fifth Grader" beat out KO?
A repeat of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" beat out KO??? What a commentary on America.
