GONZO's Going - what's the larger picture? questions...... |
|
- what does it mean regarding investigations/hearings/subpoenas? Will gonzo's going stop the investigations/hearings etc.?
- it has been puzzeling why the white house hadn't tried covering gonzo with the cloak of executive priviledge or provide some other cover
yes, the cloak probably wouldn't cover gonzo as AG, but since when has a little thing like the law stopped the bushies from doing anything? But in a couple of weeks - gonzo will no longer be AG - could the bushies throw the cloak over him at that point or order him NOT to testify if asked to appear before another hearing?
It goes without saying that something very big is being hidden, and gonzo's resignation is an effort to keep that hidden something hidden.
- was this part of some deal with the Dems? a few other DUers have speculated it as such. Or was it a result of pressure from republic party officials who fear for re(s)election chances in 2008 - especially since VOTER FRAUD investigations on DEMS only figures largely on the real reason for attorney firings...
- as far as GONZO's replacement goes - the bushies will want someone who is loyal to bush first and qualified to be AG is 9th or 10th on the list. Other than shuffling deck chairs - who's going to want to take the job for only 17 months with this kind of dark cloud over the white house?
I don't believe there's any kind of timeframe in which bush has to nominate someone to fill the AG position - he could just keep Clementes in as ACTING AG and spin it as "anyone I nominate would be roasted by the Dems and rejected so why waste taxpayers time and money?"
there may have been a deal for no recess appointments in this august break - but are there similar deals for the holiday and other recesses?

1. regarding clement as acting AG |
|
has he been mentioned at all in connection with attorney firings or other investigations/hearings?
the bushies do not appoint/hire people unless they are loyal to the bushies first and foremost... so what's the scoop on clement? just a kool-aid drinker or kool-aid pourer?
if clement leaves for whatever reason, who's next in line to replace him? Mabel Knopscot, senior employee of the nightshift cleaning crew?

2. Whenever bad news about republicans 'hits the press', I get suspicious |
|
This time it was two at once. Larry Craig and Gonzales at the same time with no spirited defense from the repugs. Our attention is being drawn away from something even more insidious than illegal activities of the Attorney General. I would keep an eye on events outside the country for the next few days. Iran and the nuclear situation have been out of the picture for awhile, and I think some kind of event is happening that the government would prefer the general public was not aware of.
