Bush’s despotism fails
The Bush Administrations position that the President has the unitary power to run the U.S. as he sees fit has faltered. Bush had every right to fire all 9 U.S. attorneys for political reasons. But in emails Bushco warned each other that they needed to be prepared with reasons for the firings. For some reason the unitary power wasn’t enough for them to feel secure. All the Administration had to say was that they fired them because they wanted to. Maybe they felt they had used the “Because I said so” line too much that day.

What Bush didn’t have the right to do was deny they were fired for political reasons. The Administration didn’t have the right to disparage their good names. Once Bushco gave trumped up reasons for the firings, the attorneys had a right and a duty to set the record straight. And they did so under oath.

Then the other shoe falls.
Alberto Gonzales resigns. His resignation is effective Sept. 17. Again Bushco slips and forgets that THEY ARE IN CONTROL. Bush could have made a recess appointment of a new Attorney General. He has the right to name anyone he wants and the Congress couldn’t have done much about it. Big Booo Booo!

When he has the right to do what he wants he doesn’t. When he has to trample the Constitution to do what he wants he does.
