Anti-gay remarks cost Naugle his seat on tourism board
Fort Lauderdale - Mayor Jim Naugle's series of controversial comments about homosexuality cost him his seat Tuesday on the board that promotes Broward County to tourists.

County commissioners accused him of jeopardizing the area's multibillion-dollar tourism industry. They said Naugle forced them to take the unprecedented step of stripping him of the job when he ignored warnings to stop his attacks.

Since Naugle made his initial allegations about rampant gay sex in public restrooms nearly two months ago, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau has been deluged with hundreds of angry e-mails from tourists. Some said they had canceled vacations, while others threatened to go elsewhere.

Kudos to the letter writers. :toast:

There is one thing the right wing bigots hate more than gay people, and that is losing out on money. Economics will always trump bigotry, every time.

3. Naugle Is An Idiot
Broward County is a popular destination for gay tourists as is many parts of the state of Florida...Even here in moderate Orlando, our city commisioners have passed laws to prevent discrimination in housing and work based on orientation...

4. Gee, money talks
You'd think a Republican of all people would have internalized this little truism.

5. That's Probably Why Former Governor Jeb Bush Opposed Putting A Gay Marriage Amendment On The Ballot
And Our Current GOP Governor favors civil unions...

The controversey the amendment would cause would be divisive and bad for business...
