Mythbusting: Republicans are NOT better at keeping the economy healthier
Md. is ranked as richest state
Edges out N.J. in household income under Census estimate
It's the kind of statistic that makes politicians and economic development gurus cheer: Maryland ranked as the richest state in the nation last year, according to estimates released Tuesday from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The state's proximity to Washington's lucrative jobs, its abundance of workers with advanced degrees, and solid health and research opportunities in the Baltimore area continually keep Maryland at the peak of the economic charts, experts said.

"We are able to access a level of job opportunities that are simply not available to the balance of the nation," said Anirban Basu, chief executive of the Baltimore economic consulting firm Sage Policy Group Inc. "That doesn't mean that Maryland doesn't have some degree of impoverishment in rural areas and in Baltimore City. But what Maryland has that many states do not have is pockets of affluence

As a long time resident of true blue Maryland I have always heard the Repubes yapping about how Maryland's taxes are too high, they have too many regulations and is too business unfriendly. I have always known that is bullshit, the same as the myth of the "tax and spend" democrats not being able to produce a healthy economy. Interesting, Maryland currently has a deficit but we just turned out a tax cut happy Repub. governor in the last election. If you look at the state's with the highest median incomes they are almost all blue states (and btw even in the MD legislation Dems outnumber Repubs by 2 to 1). I find this very interesting indeed.
