Dealing with the wingnuts in your life |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 12:25 PM by Stevendsmith
Do you still battle with these idiots, or, like me, do you just do your best to not engage these imbeciles in any type of political or cultural discussion?
My winger boss and I used to really get into it (which had its own professional perils for me), but ever since I decided to cut off all political discussion with him, my worklife has been much improved. I admit that it can be very difficult -- especially with the daily torrent of evidence that the "conservative" movement in this country is rotten to the core. I want to rub this stuff in his smug face, but I resist and my life is better because of it.

It is a mutual cease fire, they try not to provoke me, either. Some people can't be helped, ya know?

3. i just cut all wingnuts out of my life..... |
|
....why would i want to have any type of relationship with people that are so morally corrupt?
i have no use for wingnuts, repukes, freeper types and other aberrations of humanity. all they do is aid in the destruction of society and of the world. they're human garbage.

4. I try very hard not to have rw nuts in my life. |
|
I refrained from talking politics with my mother for years. She has gotten, now, to the point where she asks me why I think or believe something, and will read the stuff I give her with an open mind. Interestingly enough, the change happened on 9/11; she watched the buildings come down, saw Bush in the Fla. classroom, and said, "That building was demolished...and he KNEW...look at his face!"
We had a long discussion that day, after I determined my son was NOT where he was supposed to be, which was in the tower, and that his crew was out. (Unfortunately, his girlfriend wasn't out. A 28 year old lawyer, and she died there.)
We've had some lively discussions since, but this woman has given up her entire die-hard conservative outlook. At 80 years of age, that takes courage.

7. So, so sorry about your son's girl. |
|
Thank God your son is safe.
I find that we get further when we hold up hope and a better idea. I'm going to make a separate post about this soon, but briefly, Martin Luther King didn't lead the march with a song about what they suffered. They sang "We Shall Overcome". For the left, we need to lead with an eye on what we seek to acheive, not stuck on how corrupt and evil these guys are. They are, no question there.
Only light can chase away the darkness.

15. He was supposed to be there, |
|
and I couldn't reach him until about two; he was in Toronto, but his cell was routed through the towers, which meant that everything was flat. Interestingly enough, he wasn't there because of a power down in part of the towers. That's been mentioned elsewhere. He came home to put out fires here, because he wasn't going to be needed until things were up and functioning again on Tuesday.
When I finally did get him, he was in quite a state; he'd been calming families for hours, after he managed to get one of his crew who said everyone was out.
We lost his girlfriend and too many others, however.

5. I used to argue with a freeper on my veterans' board all the time. |
|
It took me awhile, but I finally realized that I was wasting my breath and my time. He will still post his right wing bullshit, but I ignore it, now. I used to offer up reasons why he was wrong, but it didn't matter. He always had a right wing talking point to throw right back at me...no matter how stupid it was.
Fuck 'em.

6. ai provoke them silently by wearing the "Worst President Ever" T-shirt... |
|
that I got from BartCop. I don't have to say a word and the wingnuts don't DARE to.
There was a time when they attacked me for those shirts, but now they just avert their eyes, grumble to themselves, and slink away.
I no longer believe in arguing with wingnuts, but I still enjoy pissing them off -- especially when they are not able to respond except with chagrin.

8. I work with one. After trying to have a reasoned debate with him |
|
on two or three occasions, I finally told him (nicely because he's a boss) that I would no longer participate in any kind of political discussion with him. Life is too short.

9. There is no such thing as a "Republican Friend." |

Unless, apparently, you enter a bathroom stall and tap your right foot. Then, you will find a Republican Boyfriend.

10. I just laugh in their stupid fucking faces! |
|
I don't know too many wingnuts, but on the few occasions when one of them DOES try to engage me, I've made a habit of cracking up and saying things like "You don't really believe that shit, do you? Good luck with THAT!"
They usually get the point...

All you have to do is sweetly ask them if they are better off than they were seven years ago.
That usually shuts them up quite nicely.

12. Make no mistake: we are at war with these people. |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 12:56 PM by Perry Logan
They stole two Presidential elections. That was not a political act. It was an act of civil war. We will have to fight them sooner or later.

14. Wingnut sickness runs deep |
|
Bush and his criminal type appeal to some unconscious part of those afflicted. I leave them alone because for the most part, they cannot be helped.
