Why can't I find a criminal record for Charles Alfred Dreyling, Jr.? (Repuke Pipe Bomb Pilot)

Dreyling told authorities that he had made the device and said it was “basically a pipe bomb,” according to an affidavit. Dreyling said he built the device for entertainment value, never intending to hurt anyone, and forgot that it was in his carryon bag when he brought it to the airport, the affidavit said.

Dreyling said he learned as a teenager how to build homemade explosives from Web sites like “The Anarchist’s Cook Book.” Dreyling said he has built and detonated several explosive devices for recreational purposes, according to the affidavit. — Airport Business

Humphreys testified at Dreyling’s court hearing.

Based in part on Humphreys’ testimony, Dreyling was released to the custody of his mother on $10,000 bail. If convicted, Dreyling faces up to 10 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.

2. AFAIK, criminal records are private. Unless you are in the courtroom

on the day of some activity, you'll never know someone was in court. There's no index to check........

I know, I know, they are technically public, but for all intents and purposes, good luck to any private citizen trying to find out if another person has any criminal record.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Federal prosecutors have agreed to reduce the criminal charge against a college student who is accused of trying to bring a pipe bomb aboard an airplane last month.

Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr. originally faced as much as 10 years in prison after being charged in federal court in Oklahoma City with a felony count, but prosecutors replaced that charge Tuesday with a misdemeanor.

Dreyling, 24, intends to plead guilty to the new charge, which carries as much as a year in prison, defense attorney Kent Eldridge said.

Interim U.S. Attorney John C. Richter said officials decided that it was fair to charge Dreyling with a misdemeanor count after reviewing the case.
