NEVER FORGET: George Bush's Non-Response to Hurricane Katrina ---pix--->>>
Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 04:13 PM by Stephanie

I originally posted these photos in August/September 2005. I reposted them earlier today but tech problems seem to have eaten the thread. Sorry I did not get to read all of your comments before it disappeared. Here it is again. Never forget.

Sat Aug-28-05

Bush returns from his Idaho vacation to his Crawford vacation home on Wednesday 8/24 and
promptly disappears from view. On Saturday thousands of protestors converge on Crawford.

Sun Aug-28-05

On Sunday, as headlines report "Katrina Packing Wind of Nearly 175 Mph" and New Orleans
is ordered to evacuate, Bush finally resurfaces in a taped appearance. He makes brief
remarks about Katrina and then discusses Iraq. Transcript:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/08/20050828-1.html
Later the White House issues one photo of Bush being briefed on Katrina.

Mon Aug-29-05

As the hurricane rages, Bush flies to Arizona for a "Conversation on Medicare."
Upon landing, he presents John McCain with a birthday cake. He then flies to
San Diego to spend the night at the luxury resort Hotel del Coronado, reportedly
attending a fundraiser that night.

___________________________________

Tue Aug-30-05

As floodwaters inundate New Orleans and the Gulf Coast reels from the catastrophe,
Bush speaks at a VJ-Day ceremony in San Diego. Afterwards singer Mark Wills presents
him with a guitar. He then returns to Crawford for the night.

___________________________________

Wed Aug-31-05

Bush finally returns to Washington. AF1 flies over New Orleans so Bush can
view the disaster. Back at the WH he makes his first official statement
about the aftermath of Katrina.

___________________________________

Bush did eventually visit New Orleans, of course.

1. I wish I could recommend this some more.
I think they pulled this blatant negligence just to make sure they looked like they were caught off guard.

Whatever political fallout they did suffer, pales in comparison to what they would've had to do if they acknowledged the federal government's responsibility.

2. Never forget...
that *ush and his cohorts left these people to die without so much as the bat of an eyelash. Too sad to believe. Peace and love to those who have suffered at this mans hands. Kim

7. I wonder who's got that guitar.
It looks like a very nice box, if you'd scrape the Presedential Seal off the top.

9. That guitar should go in his "Presidential" Library.
That's the emblem of his entire presidency, along with the Mission Accomplished banner.

8. I don't usually do this but
my renewed anger compels me to get more gutteral than I usually do here at DU:

That no-good motherfucker and his rat bastard accompices did nothing while countless souls drowned.

For this alone they should all go to the Hague.

10. I agree with you
and usually I don't like to use bad language here, but what he did, or more importantly, didn't do in the aftermath of this tragedy is enough to let him burn in hell for eternity...if one believes in such.

15. The picture on the plane nails it for me. .
I see fear and distress, but not for the victims of the storm & his malfeasance. It is fear for himself, for his power, for his "legacy". . Craven gutless coward.

16. yep. it's a look that says "I'm caught"
it's, "oh shit!" he had no idea. the dumb fuck could not even be bothered to turn on CNN while he was at the Hotel Coronado. Too busy attending fundraisers and playing golf at that island resort, no time to glance at the headlines.

19. There are at LEAST two things missing from this pictorial
and thank you for having the heart to keep these remembrances, Stephanie. To clarify, I was in New Orleans. My shrink and my psych both diagnose me as PTSD. I still have nightmares, I still twitch in my sleep, kick things over, hit the wall and wake up not knowing what's going on. That's a separate story, though, so pardon my babbling.

That speach Bush gave from Jackson Square was pretty well lit, if you notice? The moment that bastard flew out, the lights went with him. New Orleans descended back into a world without electricity, without fresh water, without safety. You see the sweat running down that bastard's back after 30 unprotected minutes in the N'awlins refreshing air? Try it for a week, Mr *resident.

Second thing missed. He flew back in for another photo op. The entire evacuation was shut down to allow that. People were jam packed in the airport, and everything shut down so he could make a speech.

That prick isn't worth the cost of the bullet he deserves in the head. And the sunuvabitch has the nerve to come back and sit at a table with Leah Chase. I hope they flew his seafood in freshly frozen from China.

That man left more people to die in a week than died in Iraq over a process of years. It's criminal, and that is part of why I swear that .....thing..... should be impeached and I don't care about Conyer's calculator.

-peace to the survivors

21. I remember that about the power
I remember they lit up the buildings behind him with generators and the neighborhood was so happy that the power was back, and as soon as he left the lights went out again. i also remember watching it, and how spooky it was, he looked like he was giving his speech in front of the Haunted Mansion. And if you notice, his shirt isn't buttoned right. the man can't even dress himnself.

I did not know about the circumstances around the second visit. thanks for telling me, and I'm sorry for your troubles. I think most of NYC has PTSD too. Thanks George.
