Heads up West Coast: Watch NBC Nightly News tonight
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 06:43 PM by AnnInLa
Watch the report by Richard Engel (the bravest reporter ever) from Iraq. You are not going to believe what the soldiers he was embedded with told him about their mission in Iraq. For example: 1. What are we doing here amongst a civil war? 2. We should withdraw and let them have their civil war. 3. Why are we not hearing about plans to end this war? We are hearing nothing about ending the war, only about continuing the war. Where are the plans for us to get out of here?

I was amazed that NBC aired that segment, which also showed just how dangerous that routine duties are there.

1. Many, many thanks!
I was going to leave work early anyway, and I'll be sure to tune in.

Reports like these may add up to a "Walter Cronkite moment" regarding this debacle.

2. It was great. If only the soldiers had a voice someone listened to.
We just did, and it was loud. End the damn war!

5. Why are you amazed ?
When the ground swell gets big enough you start to hear about it. Same thing happened with Vietnam.

6. I was watching too, these soldiers are wondering why there is
so much discussion and why isn't there a plan to get them out. Well I guess some of our troops are catching on, and realize that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

9. Also.....Brian Williams
Said that with all the hoopla over Anna Nicole's death, there was another death that not many people noticed: 20 year old Jennifer Parcells was killed in Iraq. She enjoyed scuba diving and other normal pursuits. I almost began crying.....I think Brian Williams is THE best, about 98% of the time.

10. Let's see, that makes the people, the soldiery, the Iraqis
All wanting the American wehrmacht recalled to home base. Not to mention the leaders and people of the majority of nations on the planet.

Sooner or later, our political "leaders" are going to want to get in front of this parade and look like it was their genius plan all the time. You would think.

11. Did anyone hear the statements by the Yale law student who was
an ex-military pilot? He did not conclude (unfortunately) that the surge was wrong, but his description of what the troops would now be facing was terrifying. They will now have to slowly tour through areas that they used to race through to keep from being bombed. They will have to stop and talk and shake hands with the locals, hoping that which the Iraqis extend is a hand and not a handgrenade, etc. He admitted that it could work (making friends with the citizens), yet he concluded that in the short term many more of our armed forces will be killed (than at current rate.)

12. Was that on NBC Nightly News tonight?
I musta blinked or something, I don't remember it. Sounds terrible. One of the reasons I was surprised by tonights segment with Richard Engel was that Engle didn't try to "balance" the report with gung-ho soldiers cheerleading for the mission....only soldiers wondering WTF are we doing?!
