6.  When people don't see it everyday then it becomes just numbers
That's what we were told not long ago , it's just numbers by Tony snow . Beside this occupation going on so long seems to tend to make people immune to reality .

I care but I see little about this issue since it is hidden under all the talk of who will be the next president and who will turn this all around .

I am really troubled by the presidential hopefuls from both sides when right now their job is to stop this war machine , this is what they are paid for , not to campaign and rake in millions to do so .

11. It rises relentlessly, breaking hearts and ruining lives unnumbered
all across the Country.

This is never "just a number", never "a comma". Each and every number is a full and fully lived life interrupted, a family never started, a family destroyed. These young people are not just the 20 or 25 year old. They are also the infant, the toddler, the school child. They are everything they lived and learned.

We never forget that. We never stop fighting to end the killing.

17. The Sunday news shows usually list the names, ages
and home towns of the latest releases from the Pentagon. More and more I notice that troops in their 30's and 40's are being listed. Our presidential candidates could recognize these brave troops occasionally.... As Robert Dallek talked about on c-span booknotes today, the similarities of the Nixon White House to Bush's are so terribly similar. He insinuates that others are leading this president. Others were leading Nixon too, especially when Nixon was in a drunken stupor! Kissinger and Haig and others made critical nuke decisions during the big dust up in about 1970(?) with Israel and Egypt(?), Syria(?) war. It is worth watching if and when it is shown again, it has been on at least twice so far.

particularly those of us who had or have family in Iraq. We know Bushco and MSM don't give a flying fugg. Bushco says they're a comma and the only numbers MSM count are ratings.

I think people are frustrated that these war criminals are getting away with murder.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=109x30651

As someone whose whole family has been in the military, I care very much. I am continually in fear for our world that this war criminal * is still in charge. I am pissed of that I had to do a search on google at the DoD to write my post above. I am pissed off that we were lied into a war, and almost no one in the media is covering it to do it justice as they should. It should be front page news 24/7.

Hey Mainstream Media! We were lied into a war! There's a senator who must resign because he wanted a quickie in a mens room, and yet these WAR CRIMINALS in the Bush Admin are still in charge????
And our military is taking the heat? And the demagogues in congress are not going to Impeach???
How many hundreds of thousands of innocents in Iraq are dead, disfigured, starved to death, because of PNAC and the NeoCons and greed???????
:argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I talked to a someone who was very active in the 60s, and she didn't understand why we don't have mass demonstrations nationwide, and I don't either. I think it must have been like this in Wiemar Germany.

Peace ThomWV. Keep the faith.

and please don't assume because everyone isn't wallowing in the horror of it that we don't. It's become too hard for some. I don't think that means they've lost sight of the prize (IE. Peace) but the situation looks so hopeless lately that we know that number is just going to grow exponentially if Bush starts his war with Iran. They should start building the war on terror memorial wall now because if we cross this Rubicon it could very well be ten times longer than the Vietnam wall. I'm steeling myself for greater horrors to come so I have to ignore the current ones for a while. That's just me and my two cents. I speak for no one else.

36. On a recent trip to the San Francisco Bay Area I
came across this memorial in the town of Lafayette. It's visible from the highway and from the frequent BART trains that stop at the nearby station. This picture was taken almost 1 thousand deaths ago.

I wish more of these memorials dotted the landscape. I think people should be reminded. Too much out of sight, out of mind in this country.

38. Remember before it was a number?
With the first couple hundred deaths we got virtual biographies for each one. Somewhere that turned into a simple number to the point you had to dig a while to find even the names. Now you have to dig a while to even find the numbers.

Wonder where it'll go next.

Because it completely ignores all the Iraqis and others who have died because of this. It seems to suggest that their deaths are not as important. I suspect that's not the message you mean to convey, but that is how it always comes across to me.

51. Nobody does much care, do they?
Remember the "Wall of Honor" that they used to have on CNN? How long ago was that and what happened to it? They would have to be on 24/7 reporting on each and every casualty and build another building to put up all those pix. These poor souls are just numbers now, not real people, with families, friends and lives. Bill Maher said it best, that all this has just become background noise: more deaths, more bombings, blah, blah, blah. You're right, nobody cares, or is listening anymore... But I care, too.;(
