Chief Justice ROBERTS suggested Chimpy nominate Miers for SCOTUS???
It was John G. Roberts Jr., now the chief justice of the United States, who suggested Miers to Bush as a possible Supreme Court justice, according to the book. Miers, the White House counsel and a Bush loyalist from Texas, did not want the job, but Bush and first lady Laura Bush prevailed on her to accept the nomination, Draper writes.

After Miers withdrew in the face of the conservative furor, Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. was selected and confirmed for the seat.

Roberts rejected Draper's report when asked about it last night.

"The account is not true," said Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg, after consulting with Roberts. "The chief justice did not suggest Harriet Miers to the president."

3. and what the hell does this mean????
Draper writes that Bush was "gassed" after an 80-minute bike ride at his Crawford, Tex., ranch on the day before Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast and was largely silent during a subsequent video briefing from then-FEMA Director Michael D. Brown and other top officials making preparations for the storm.

:wtf: does being "gassed" have to do with reacting to Katrina????

14. And I answered
Some people really don't have an agenda.

Take a deep breath and calm down. You are ascribing words to me which I did not write so mightn't you also be projecting an agenda I don't have.

Have a better week.

6. I searched all five pages of synonyms for "tired" at thesaurus.com.
"Gassed" was not listed. The closest I found was "outta gas." Among the synonyms for "drunk," however, "gassed" was listed twice.

2. Roberts pulled the wool over many eyes
Many here predicted disaster with Roberts, but while opposing him I held out hope, given that he was obviously bright and seemed qualified. After all, Earl Warren was a Republican. I forgot, however, that there are no more Jerry Ford Republicans, let alone Earl Warren Republicans. And that Bush would never put anyone in except the worst sort of person.

I was had, and admit it. He can deny this one all he wants, but it's a small point in a bigger picture: Roberts has turned out to be a disgraceful and dangerous chief justice, a right-wing activist with little respect for precedent. Another "stop Bush" priority for this weak Congress is to stop any of his nominees for the high court. Any. No matter what they say, they will not be nominated without being a disgrace to the bench.

9. That is an old trick of people on the climb.
When a job you want opens up and you are consulted about whom to appoint, name someone who is not really quite qualified or unlikely to be appointed for some other reason. Just wait, when that person is rejected, the question will be asked, Who suggested him her?" And your name will come up. People will start considering your qualifications and whammy, you are in. The one thing you don't do is suggest someone who is likely to qualify or get the job. Roberts wanted the job, but also did not want to seem pushy. Alito got the nomination that Miers failed to get, but he was nominated for the next opening. Works like a charm.

12. I think Roberts suggested Miers because
he has his lips firmly affixed to Bush's butt. And he thought this suggestion would please his master--as I recall it did.
