1. If it was suicide, I'm sad for him and his family.
But I can't help but wonder if Larry Flynt and others intent on exposing Republican "character flaws" are getting to some of these congress people who are resigning and refusing to seek another term.

Someone's getting to them.

3. I never thought of the Larry Flynt deal...
..or anyone being outed for other reasons.

How sad for his family, I agree, if this is what happened.

I cannot feel anything but badly for Sen Craig's wife and his children. This has to be hard on these people.

5. I agree.Having known the ex-wives and children of several prominent families
there is a lot of pressure that they endure.BTW-I met them in several recovery groups I attended.I think we are above contempt for people who are suffering, regardless of their social stature.I hope we are.

4. Well, maybe it was a heart attack?
Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio) passed away suddenly Tuesday night, according to his office. He was 68.

According to an inter-conference email obtained by The Hill, Gillmor did not show up to the office this morning causing his staff to become concerned. When they went to his apartment to check on him, they found that the lawmaker had passed away.

Capitol Police is currently investigating, but sources believe that the 10-term lawmaker may have had a heart attack.

In November, Gillmor won his district with 57 percent of the vote, holding on to his seat in a year that saw Democrats take over a GOP Senate seat and the governor’s mansion in Ohio.

He was pushing 70 and he looks overweight...so maybe his death was from natural causes.

9. We have a Dem governor
who could appoint a Dem to the seat.

11. I read on another thread that all vacant U.S. House seats require elections.
But I don't know when Ohio would call for a special election.

8. THis is starting to get weird.
Y'know, I always found it strange when so many dem/liberal figures turned up dead via unusual or suspicious circumstances at unusual or suspicious times....and now it seems like many RW figures are being neutralized (by their own hand?) or at least marginalized at a steady clip - it's been happening since the Mark Foley thing last year. The timing feels odd - like there's some greater force pulling strings, trying to bring forth a shift in the terrain.

Anyone else getting that feeling, too?

13. Yeah, I get that, but....
There was also that recent murder-suicide, Larry Craig, Vitter, etc.

It just seems to happen in clusters, I guess.

15. Well, Gillmor was first Republican in the U.S. House
to call on Gonzales to resign. But, I'm betting it was a heart attack.

19. Rep. Gilmore was a veteran who served in Vietnam as an AF CPT.
I think his family deserves our best wishes, regardless of his party affiliation.
