I'm really bothered on many more levels than normal about a Tweety segment tonight. |
|
He was talking about Obama getting on the couch with Oprah and about Oprah endorsing him.
To discuss this, he had as guests a black female Reverend (who was billed as a Clinton supporter) and some fast talking black male Georgetown professor and sometimes radio talker.
The question that started it ... from Tweety ..... does Oprah have the 'right' to endorse a candidate, (being as how she's a big star and influential and all that)?
Whaaaaaaaaaat?
How is that even a question???????
And then there's the notion of having two black guests on to discuss the black candidate and the black endorser.
I'm sorry ..... maybe I'm waaaaaay off base here, but that whole exchange seemed to me to be just plain wrong on so many different levels.

1. Many things about Tweety are very wrong on many levels. |
|
Didn't see this one so can't comment. But if it was on Tweety's dog's-breakfast teevee show it was probably twisted, somehow.

2. Typical Republican - it's okay if celebrities endorse candidates |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 07:02 PM by Rabrrrrrr
or programs or policies of Republicans: that's just "being an American."
But if a celebrity endorses a Democrat or independent candidate, policy, etc., then it's a misuse of their power and something that they shouldn't do because they're "just an entertainer".
Standard double standard for repukes.

4. Oprah has a right to endorse anybody she wants |
|
and the two black guests have a right to say they don't. But just cause Oprah endorses someone that doesn't mean that it is going to make him a better candidate. So why are people complaining. I've never read ONE of the books she endorsed, but I still watch her once in a while. So it just go to show Matthews is getting upset about nothing. People still have a right to do what they want, whether they are the biggest star or the littlest peep.

12. I'm actually reading one of her book club books right now... |
|
I got it for $.25 at a garage sale. It's not bad actually. The Poisonwood Bible. About a family who moves to the Belgian Congo in the 60's as missionaries. They get stuck there when the country gains it's Independence. I haven't watched the show in years, and who she endorses will have no bearing on how I vote.

She supports Hillary Clinton and he supports Barack Obama. They are both ordained ministers. He's a full professor at Georgetown.
They've been on as a 'team' before. They're both keen observers - far, far more interesting and worthwhile than dozens I could mention.

She's supporting Hillary and he Obama. If they don't have a problem with it, I guess I don't either.
Does Oprah have a right to endorse though? You've got to be kidding. Why wouldn't she?
This just goes to show how good the Clintons are at getting their talking points into the media when they want to. People really need to start taking notice of that little detail.

8. they are married, to each other |
|
one time they were on they talked about it.
It's stupid, I think Chris was just trying to figure out a way to get the couple on.
She's not very articulate and he's too "cute" (one more alliteration and I'll scream!)

I live alone, very awkward moment. Anyhoo, Tweety had been doing so well and then poof, you're left with a WTF??? Like Oprah doesn't have an opinion and right to endorse whomever she wishes. Like Oprah, as an intelligent black woman, wouldn't be proud to endorse a black candidate of Barack Obama's stature. Tweety leads you down the trail and you think it's safe, then all of a sudden this wierd bogey man comes out and you lose it....

Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck.....and their ILK are okay, but GAWD FORBID a LIBERAL talk show host should endorse a candidate! FOR SHAME!!!!! Oprah should be taken off the air!!!!!)(*&^%$#@ The NERVE of that Uppity Black Woman!
These people never cease to amaze me with their HYPOCRISY! ALL OF THEM! Tweety needs to just shut the fuck up. The man who literally DROOLS over Willard Romney and Fred Thompson has the unmitigated GALL to question what OPRAH HAS THE "RIGHT" TO DO????

11. What isn't 'right' about it |
|
to Tweety is it happens to be dem. If this were the other way around it would then be something to be proud of. They're not so much afraid of Oprah as they are afraid of Oprah and her $.
It also bothered me the way he thought that comment to the high school kid by McCain was so great.

Maybe Oprah should have a topic about how someone nicknamed Tweety should not be hosting an hour long show.
A lot of times I don't mind the guy, but he hosts a show and should know that when you do that it is your call.
IT'S HER SHOW! HER SKIN COLOR IS BLACK AND I IMAGINE A LOT OF HER FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE BLACK. It's her show - if she wants people she knows and likes on it to talk about WHOEVER - to bad for anyone else who objects.
