It's a bit long... the Courant is my local paper, the Hartford Courant. And, no, Hillary is not one of my top choices for president.
>>>
Earlier this week, the Courant ran two articles on Norman Hsu, a businessman who had donated money to the campaign of Hillary Clinton. Hsu, it turns out, is a criminal wanted related to an incident from 1991. Despite returning the donation upon finding out about Mr. Hsu’s criminal record, the media is awash in stories about how this may hurt the campaign of Senator Clinton. Fox, CNN and NBC all carried multiple stories about the incident.
Meanwhile, the co-chairman of Republican front-runner Mitt Romney’s national finance committee, Alan Fabian, was just indicted on 23 counts of bankruptcy fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice and perjury. Additionally, the chairman of Romney’s Utah state campaign, Robert Litchfield, also just stepped down under a cloud of scandal and controversy.
These were men that Romney had hired and supposedly screened, not a random donor like Hsu. Yet, there is hardly a peep in the media about these incidents, their ties to Romney and speculation about how it will hurt his campaign. None of the TV news organizations that carried multiple stories about Norman Hsu had one second of coverage about Fabian or Litchfield.
Similarly, this so-called “liberal media” also gave scant coverage when the chairman of Rudy Giuliani’s South Carolina campaign was indicted for cocaine charges, or when the chairman of his Florida campaign had his own Larry Craig incident.
Amazingly, the media seems more concerned about the political donations of a man who committed a crime almost 20 years ago than it does about the two Republican front-runners having direct ties to people recently indicted for serious criminal activity. Shouldn’t the fact that both Romney and Giuliani have made such poor choices for key campaign roles be more important than the political donations of one businessman with a shady past?
