As Bush and Cheney and their wives walked onto the White Hourse lawn this morning...
Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 10:03 PM by drthais
..and the band was blaring the Star Spangled Banner...
I had an epiphany.

Once upon a time
I heard a Patriotic Song..be it that piece or God Bless America
and I would get little tingly patriotic feelings
bleeding heart liberal that I am
but, this morning, with all of the solemnity of the ceremony
and this was C-Span, so there was no commentary...
I thought..."they're catapulting the propaganda!"
those pieces did not inspire patriotism in my soul
they disgusted me instead.
I felt betrayed listening to this music
and could they have chosen a more obnoxious choral arrangement?

this is very sad
it is one more thing that has been wrested from us
one more thing that has been taken.

I should be able to still be proud of my country
even though we are in very troubling times
but, no.
I can't even have that

damn these people

1. It would have been easier to watch Bush and Cheney
each take a dump in the Rose Garden and use the Constitution to wipe each other's ass.

2. I have struggled with similar feelings
The flag and such things just don't make me choke up like they used to.
Once upon a time, as the flag would pass or the star spangled banner would play, I would get choked up in the middle. But that has been diminished over the way the bu$h regime and the neocons have wrapped themselves in it.

3. Sorry
Nixon ruined those things for me, long ago.
