What happens if the economy is in the toilet in November, 2008? |
|
I think the rage of the American voter is directed straight at the repukes, and the thrashing they'll get will be epic. I'm certainly not wishing for this to happen, but signs seem to be pointing that way. If it happens, the repukes will be so marginalized in gov't that there will be real opportunities for passing meaningful legislation. And yes, I believe that's possible.

1. The next repuke Presidential candidate will try to sell themselves.. |
|
as the anti-Bush. It will all be piled on him, and it's going to be ugly. The rats are jumping ship by the score.
I think you're correct though, the Democrats stand a good chance of winning historic gains if things continue to go the way it looks like they're going.

2. You're Setting Up A 1932 0r 1980 Scenario |
|
We saw what happened...That being said there was an incumbent in both of those races;something that won't be the case in 08...
Also, I don't think things will be as bad as they were in 32...

3. I'm not sure how relevant the |

incumbancy argument is, and I don't think it has to be as bad as '32 for their to be a blowout.

6. This Election Is Uninque. That Was My Point. |
|
It's the first election since 1952 where there in not an incumbent president or vice president running...
If the election was held today the Dems would win the White House and pick up eight to ten Senate seats... I don't know how many House seats they would pick up...
But the election isn't being held today...

EVERYONE'S fault in Washington. No FINGERPOINTING, please.
My personal freepers were over for dinner this weekend and when I said "Bush" they went ballistic. "He's not "our" guy". The problem is "They're ALL a bunch of CROOKS" BLAH BLAH BLAH.
I couldn't even use the word "administration" without the tops of their heads blowing off. Concerted effort somewhere in their universe to get them to paint all politicians with the same brush. Probably Limpballs......
My husband (the peacemaker) said Yea, sure, sure, we all really want the same things for America, we just go about them in different....blah blah blah....
But NO! These "friends" are my diametric opposites, real "bootstraps" republicans who are against health care for the poor and public education. Unless enlightenment hits them between the eyes between now and the time they die, they will vote in the opposite direction that I do, no matter WHAT the party is called.

that's the BS I get out of my dad "they are all crooks". No Republican wants to admit how deeply out of touch the Republicans are. At the same time, they see now the Emperor has no clothes. Alot of Republicans wish George Bush would just keep his mouth shut because everything he says is embarassing.
My guess is Mitt or Giuliani is going to be running as a moderate. They are not going to talk as much about the government being the problem, etc., and they'll try really hard not to make family values a campaign platform until the very last days of the election. Giuliani in particular I consider very dangerous for the Democrats because he could win. Mitt's weakness will be his Mormonism, which will suppress some evangelical voters. Thompson is going to come across as a dirty-old-man and another Ronald Reagan (for good or bad), but he might have a chance.

12. Thompson HAS to be their man. |
|
I can't see the fundies voting for Mitt OR Giuliani.
They agree that Ron Paul is the only TRUTHFUL guy on the dais....but they WILL NOT COUNTENANCE WITH DRAWL FROM IRAQ (as if these bozos have any say over it!) :eyes:
These freepers are so worked up they would probably vote for a "masked avenger", Mexican-Style, if he was promising perpetual oil supplies and low taxes.

It's just that people have been conditioned and manipulated into tolerating more worse stuff than they used to.

10. I doubt Repubs can keep the plates spinning until Nov 2008 ...we may have crashed by then. |
|
When you use artificial means to keep an economy producing results that would not occur without them you know you are living on borrowed time.
They are trying to keep the illusion going until they can hand it off to the next DEM President.
They may not make it ....

declare martial law and suspend the whole thing because of:
...economy coming crushing down ...terrorist attack ...nature attack ...war that isn't contained to the countries attacked
i'm confident he will. I'd actually bet on this.

I actually think he can't wait to get out of the WH. And I'd bet on it too, but I don't bet with folks on the internet.

No, I never said anything like that. I'm simply coming to a conclusion based on my observations, reading and deductions.
