Why I'll Support Hillary if she is the Democratic Nominee
Although I admire a powerful and strong woman, I'm not a huge fan of Hillary Clinton's politics or her strategy for winning the White House. I made that clear a few days ago with a post about why I would have trouble voting for Hillary if she is the Democratic Nominee. Although I did say I would most likely "hold my nose" and vote for Hillary over the Republican Nominee(since a strong third party is virtually nonexistent in the U.S.), I've now come to say that if Hillary Clinton is the nominee I will throw my full support behind her and her campaign. Why? Because of one person that changed my mind, my little 6 year-old sister.

While my little sister is as political as a 6 year old can be(which is not very) she does know who the President and Vice President are and does know the basics of how our government is split into three branches. She is a very smart little girl and a gutsy one too who loves wearing her "future president" t-shirt that I bought her during one of my trips to D.C. for a protest. She was watching news with us the other night when she saw a clip of Hillary Clinton on the news. She turned to my mother and said "Why can't we have a girl President like that?" My Mom quickly replied "Actually, she may be our next President." My little sister's eyes lit up so big and she responded to my Mom with an excited "Really?!" I remember when I would have had that same reaction to finding out that a woman could potentially be the next President of the United State. I'm still excited about that potential today. I've just let my political beliefs disrupt that feeling of excitement over that possibility, but my little sister brought it back to me.

So, while I am not endorsing Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Primary race and I will throw my full support behind her if she is indeed the Democratic Nominee... all because of my little sister.

2. why can't we have a girl president?
A great sentiment, if the nominee was someone without so many negatives (in my mind). I don't care if she turns into an angel sprinkling dust on America, I don't believe her words or actions.

Why can't we have an intelligent and caring president who understands what is needed to make this country great again?

16. In all seriousness why is Hillary not believed?
I have watched her for years. The only thing I can see is that many people think she's an uppitty woman, and we just can't have an uppitty woman. She's intelligent. Well spoken. She raised a daughter anyone should be proud of, and that in itself is a real feat. The people of NY have elected her twice as their senator. She tried to get us healthcare before it was popular to do so. She's been given more than her share of grief from the repubs, more than anyone deserves. She's been accused of just about anythig you can think of but Ken Starr couldn't prove anything. They wanted to get rid of the Clintons so bad if there was any REAL wrong doing they would have made it public. I still am up in the air over who I will vote for in the primary, but I would like to see, Hillary, Richardson,Clark and Biden leading the country. I'd take them in any order. I believe we have an outstanding
group except for Gravel and Kuccinch. (I don't remember how to spell his name.)

10. I first thought I could hold my nose and vote for Hillary...
...but, after her "No Insurance Company Left Behind" health care plan (which is, if possible, an even worse "solution" than our current setup), I fear I will have to go third-party in fourteen months if Hillary's the nominee.

5. She doesn't make my socks go up and down either....
but I will vote for her with a fair amount of enthusiasm if she's the nominee.

We have a great bunch of candidates.

6. I know it's a tough choice...
but left with an option of another 4 years with a republican leaves Hillary a much better choice above anyone with the (R) next to their name.

And although you, me and everyone else at DU will growl at whomever the nominee is AND, if elected, what that democrat will do as president; it'll be reassuring to know that at least a democratic president will keep you and your lil sister's right to determine the best course of action with your body.

7. OK, I can see that.
Senator Clinton* isn't my first choice, but she's far from my last. And I won't hold my nose to vote for ANY Democratic candidate for ANY office. If a Democratic Candidate is proven to be a psychotic ax murderer, I might hold my nose and vote 3rd party...

*(are there any other candidates we routinely refer to by the first name? Mitt? Rudy? John? Barack? No, just the Senator from NY. Respect for the Senator! She earned the title, and the right to be refered to by her last name!)

9. after the past election
and the lack of ANYTHING getting accomplished, I have no faith in them to ever accomplish anything.

Whoopdee friggin do. They passed a measley minimum wage increase. Whoopy.

They worked 93 days this past year.

How many days did you work?

What was pressing for them to make decisions on?

Almost nothing, apparently.

11. Mitt, Rudy, and Barack are all called by their first times quite a bit
so is Dennis

as for calling her Clinton I think it's just everyone calling her Hillary just because of the other Clinton and the confusion that might exist. ;)

8. So that's what it comes down to...
Support Hillary because it would be kool to have a "girl president."

That's the same sort of rationale that caused Californians to chose a film action hero as governor, or Minnesotans a professional wrestler.

By that standard, if the only woman running in 2008 were not Hillary but Condoleeza Rice, wouldn't the same rationale dictate that you enthusiastically support her? If you were in England in the 1970s, would you have voted for Margaret Thatcher just for the benefit of a 6-year-old's excitement?

As far as I'm concerned, if anyone is going to earn my vote in 2008, it will be based on their policies and ideas, not on some specific kool factor which has nothing to do with how they will perform once in office.

14. yes, there is that also
however, in alabama there is no way of hillary winning. i was considering voting third party just to send my own little message but after my little sister's reaction to the possibility i can't see voting third party anymore.

15. That's a pretty good reason...
when we get past the nitty-gritty of policies and politics, it sure WOULD be inspiring to a lot of people, girls and boys, to have a woman president.

18. Although she wouldn't be my first choice either
She'd be a damn sight better than the idiot who is sitting in the Whitehouse today. In fact, I suspect she may turn out to be as good a president as her husband, maybe hers would even turn out to be similar in many ways to his presidency. I can only hope.

19. Hillary's not my first choice either, but if she is the nominee, I will
vote for her with enthusiasm - I think it's time we see what a woman can and will do. I think she's tough as nails and she certainly could run circles around the idiot in office now. Your little sister is more informed that half the grownups in America, and I have a feeling you had a lot to do with her knowledge.

the damage done by bush.
