Circuit City and Olive Garden?
I must have been busy and away from DU when all that hullabaloo hit. I am ALL TOO AWARE of the Taser Story, which has prompted many mentions of both Circuit City and the Olive Garden. I tried to search for thread titles to get more info, but I failed to find the original stories.

I don't want to reopen old wounds if there were any regarding those stories, I'm merely curious as to what the hell happened.

Does anyone have a link to one of the OP's featuring the original news stories?

All I found when I searched were a few mentions, mostly satirical, after the fact.

Thanks.

Or are you current on those stories?

2. Brazillion soldiers, yes.
Carrot Top, not so much, but that's the first I've ever heard of it, and the little fucker annoys me so much I won't ask. :-)

5. Um...
I'm pretty sure that wasn't what I meant.

There was some receipt situation at Circuit City, yes?

Olive Garden no idea.

Does either place allow in-store circumcision?

4. Thanks so much for this post - I, too, must have blinked when those things were
happening and have no clue as to why they're making the rounds. Would
love to know what I missed.

Jesus, I think I might be getting vague, sarcastic answers befitting of a pariah for not knowing this. Though I can't be sure. Maybe they don't know either.

I just happened to have not been posting much when this all broke, and when I search the old threads, all that I can find is satire.

Usually these things start with threads that get an extremely large number of replies. Just sort the threads in order of most replies and you'll usually find them on the first or second page, unless they're archived, of course.

Hahaha. Didn't mean to "louge-ify" the sanctity of GD.

I just thought someone here might know. From what I understand, at least Circuit City was a legit news story. (???)

29. legit --?
yeah. i guess. broad definition and loose use of the term. all the rest of these are major players in the lounge, too. to be honest, i can't tell much difference between the lounge and gd. the line between news and entertainment has been blurred...so has the line between gd and the lounge. :yoiks:

30. Ahhh.
Yeah, I know a little bit more about the two stories now. Circuit City was somewhat legit-ish - I think the Olive Garden was just a big flame war thing.

Which I believe I am glad I missed.

Yeah, once I found out what the Olive Garden thing was about, I regretted asking. I thought there was an actual news event - like something major happened at one of their restaurants.

I had no idea. :-)

11. Circuit City was
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 09:00 PM by kdmorris
a story about a man who declined to show his receipt and open his bag for a Circuit City employee when he left the store. He just declined and walked out of the store. I don't have a link to an OP, but here's the story: http://www.michaelrighi.com/2007/09/01/arrested-at-circuit-city/

It was a story that would have been worthy of talking about whether it's really right for a store to treat you with a presumption of guilt rather than a presumption of innocence, but it turned into a large poo-flinging fest.

I don't know what the hell happened at Olive Garden. I must have blinked then, too. I don't know why you are getting all the snarky answers.

Edited: I asked my husband. He said Olive Garden was a big poo-fest in the Lounge apparently, but no real "news" story goes with it.

It may come up again, though, since the Circuit City guy still has to go to court.

23. Yeah, probably not
I think I'll try to avoid the sequel though. We are all supposed to be adults, but when emotions become involved (and I'm by NO mean innocent of getting mad and saying things that would have been best left unsaid), chaos ensues.

25. Same...
And we all are guilty of it, even if we know better. Some issues people freak out over, I don't give a damn about, but there are definitely a few things that get my color up.

So, I totally understand how it can happen.

Thanks again.

12. I don't think there is a story linked to Olive Garden per se.
It is more that it is used as a bad example of dining in DU's Lounge.

24. The Olive Garden story involved a group of Democrats ......
"Southern Dems" who were talking about politics, the War and George Bush when the Manager walked up to their table and asked them to leave.
The Group said No...the Manager called the Police.
The Police came and tried to break up the Democrats into groups of 3.
One of the Women called her Husband who was going to a Costume Party (unfortunately as a Pirate)
He also was carrying a Ships wheel in his Pants (Like those wheels that steer the old Ships)

When The Husband/Pirate walked up to the Cop...The Cop asked:
"Doesn't that Wheel Hurt?"
The Husband said: "Arrr, It's driving me Nuts"
