3. I'm sure Mozart would be a Democrat, given the choice of any of our |

candidates versus the aristocratic lunkheads he had to work for.

7. Oh Yeah? Well if Adlai Stevenson came back as a flesh-eating zombie, |
|
I would vote for him even as I barricaded myself in an abandoned farmhouse with nothing but an old axe to defend myself.

Honestly, I think we'd get better government if we had a national lottery and drew for our leaders every four years.
And four years later, we'd kick them out, and have another lottery!  :toast:

4. Used and abused, but Bushies are Kinder and Gentler Nazis |
|
I just want to know why it always works, at least for awhile, andsometimes a lot longer.
It could be from the Left, like Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot.
It could be from the Right, like Hitler, Pinochet, Marcos, Caesar, and BushCheney.
But it ALWAYS fucking WINS, at least for awhile and sometimes much longer.
Like Rome, Amerika may never again be a Republic, even if the Dems miraculously win the Imperial Throne in 2008 (I think they'd need 65%+ of actual casted votes to get a 50.1%-49.9% "win" in the "counted vote").
It's tough not to have the despairing view of a Jew in Nazi Germany in 1937, because that is precisely where Imperial Amerika 2007 is right now.
And evil looks like a runaway winner AGAIN.

20. I Think It Works By Way Of A Combination Of |
|
...fear, greed, short-term thinking, lack of imagination, knowing which side of the bread the butter's on, believing that we can all grow up to become filthy rich, believing that it can't happen here, & being unable to imagine one's own death, thinking thereby that there's plenty of time to fix things up.

I liked being able to vote for a candidate on other than the 'regular' party line.

10. I was going to change my party affiliation several years ago......... |
|
but the lady at the Board of Elections told me that there were so few registered 'LIBERALS' it would be a shame to lose one of them. I felt a responsibility to continue carrying the torch for ALL remaining born and bred LIBERALS, so I continue to be a registered LIBERAL to this day. The damn neocons are attempting to make 'US' extinct.

6. I would love to be an enthusiastic Democrat, but... |
|
... that would require that, at least once in a while, the Democratic Party actually be a liberal party rather than their occasional forays into being a relatively liberal party. Frankly, I get sick and tired of the only recommendation being, "The Republicans are worse."

12. Getting more cynical every day |
|
Yes the lead in the senate is very thin and is largely dependent on a turncoat bastard, but still it makes me wonder why we can't get a majority on anything. This is absolutely fucking pathetic.
And when we had the minority, there were no filibusters. Now I hear nothing about the nuclear option. What about keeping that powder dry? I am convinced that the democratic party is just weak, fragmented and just incapable of forming a consensus on a progressive policy of any sort.
And who cares about threats of vetoes? Have the motherfucker veto everything. When Dems got control of both houses, they should have made it clear they had an agenda they wanted to get through, and either Bush could sign it or veto it. He should have been vetoing things every other day and we should have absolutely gridlock. Instead Dems try to play nice with republicans in passing watered down garbage or just cave in like in the case of the spy bill.
I'll still keep voting Democratic, because there simply are no alternatives. I'm convinced anyone that still stays with the republican party after all these years is insane. But when we hear of such crappy healthcare proposals coming out by our candidates, I don't see the kind of change in the status quo the country REALLY needs.

22. I don't think that's cynical at all. |
|
Who's being cynical are the Dems who actually water down legislation while they're drafting it - before it goes to committee and before it goes to a vote - because they're so darn sure it would fail otherwise. they call it being "realistic" and "how it really works". It's not really as much Democracy in action as it is Mediocracy in action.
Who's being cynical are the candidates who don't think we could or should have what every other civilized nation does have in terms of healthcare. Despite over 70% of the nation wanting universal healthCARE (not insurance), the naysayers get their say. Fucking cynics if I've ever seen one.
People who are ok with what's going on in Congress are the cynical ones. they just cover it up with tough talk about "the game" (which they've accepted) and describing various ways cookies are supposed to crumble.
We have higher standards than that.

I'm registered unaffiliated. The "football team" mentality of politics is a major reason why this country is slowly rotting into a fascist shithole.
