North Dakota Downgrades Unwed Cohabitation From Sex Crime To Fraud

Living together out of wedlock would be downgraded from a sex crime to fraud, and then only if the couple claims to be married, under a proposal that passed the state Senate on Friday.

The bill was changed from an outright repeal of the state's anti-cohabitation law. The amended proposal would make the false representation of marital status a misdemeanor crime for a man and woman who live together.

That's a great thing but it isn't like they were punishing people for unwed cohabitation anyway. In the 90's I lived with one guy for 5 years and another guy for 2 years and at least 50% of my friends were living with their boy/girlfriend. All in ND.

It's hilarious some of the outdated ridiculous laws that are still on the books all over the country. I know one of them in ND (unless it has been removed recently) is you can take your horse in the bar but it is against the law to get him drunk. :silly:
