I'm getting tired of police abuse stories
Here's one that was on digg today...

http://www.wndu.com/videoplus/headlines/9834111.html?pollSubmit=y&submit=submit&oid=1&mr=1&cid=6500&pid=9794147#

Watch the video twice. Clearly, the man was not aggressive, and did not initiate physical contact with anyone.

Then watch the video called "Marshall Jack Tiller's reaction." The cop blatantly lies about what happened.

Then go back and watch the first one again. Clearly the cop abused his power on more than one level.

Why isn't there outrage about this kind of thing?

On the first two pages of digg this morning there are five separate police brutality stories. Not including the Kerry taser story.

4. No excusing what the cop did
But this story is as much about mob justice against the town asshole (notice how complacent the crowd was?) as it is about police abuse of power. Roseland is apparently a pit of intrigues and vendettas:

14. Small town politics boilover.
The more you look into it, the more you find that everyone has crossed the line at some point. It's an old, stupid game, played by adult children taking out the shit they've gotten in their lives by turning their lives into a WWF match/Jerry Springer episode.

Sounds like Roseland could be an entire town of town assholes.

5. Either you pay cops what the job deserves, or you get what you pay for.
Deal with it.

From what I saw there. You have a bloke figuratively giving the cops the bird. I also see a pissed off copper. Yes the cop was almost certainly in the wrong.

Now you walk up to an "Angel" and tell him he's an arsehole. He to would be in the wrong in his most likely response, but I doubt you'd see much in the way of sympathy.

You pay for arseholes. Expect arsehole behaviour.

7. I don't believe that
I work for a government agency (Child protective services) and we have to act professionally, regardless of pay. Yes, we have our share of incompetent workers, but when we got pay raises in the last few years, the incompetent ones became well-paid incompetents. Pay raises had no effect on the quality of workers we had.

Plus, new hires are less and less qualified here, despite the higher pay.

Police brutality is not a matter of pay. It happens because we have turned a blind eye.

21. True. But there is a point below which, you can attract only...
...the few with a true vocation, total incompetents and those with a personal agenda.

6. THERE IS OUTRAGE!
This, and other videos like it, need to be posted everywhere, so that people can see them. And people need to do something, instead of just watching them.

8. WHY DON'T WE MAKE SOME PHONE CALLS?
I did a little research, after seeing that video.

We need to barrage these guys with phone calls, and tell them exactly what we think about this:

Charlie Shields is the guy who had Snyder ejected from the meeting. He's the president of the town council. His number is: 574-272-6377.

Mr. Dvorak is the attorney for the town, and the one who had the felony charges dropped against Snyder, but he is doing NOTHING about his cop gone bad, Marshal Tiller. Dvorak's number is: 574-235-9544.

Why don't we give them a call and express our outrage?

And I have to confess, I don't know what K&R means.

But I do know the earth is round, so I'm not a total loss.

11. "Power Tends To Corrupt And Absolute Power Corrupts
absolutely." Lord Acton said it very well and it holds true today.

19. I have a slightly different take on that..
""All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted."" -Frank Herbert

22. Herbert Probably Has Something There
but it leaves us very little hope doesn't it. And it is we the people who allow these pathological personalities to lead us to begin with. What does that say about us? Thankfully, we have had some leaders that have done so with compassion, intelligence and very little corruption. At least, I like to think there have been.

16. dysfunctional city government in action!
What I basically saw was grown adults acting like imbeciles (which is not by the way illegal)... And a cop who looked like he should be wearing orange coveralls not a badge...
