BWAAA!!! Obama "biotch-slaps" PM Howard
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 12:11 AM by Lost-in-FL
Australian Prime Minister John Howard has claimed US presidential hopeful Barack Obama's stance on Iraq will benefit those seeking to destroy it.

Howard: "I think he's wrong. I think that will just encourage those who want to completely destabilize and destroy Iraq, and create chaos and a victory for the terrorists to hang on and hope for an Obama victory.

"If I were running al-Qaeda in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008 and be praying as many times as possible for a victory not only for Obama but also for the Democrats."

Obama:
"I think it's flattering that one of George Bush's allies on the other side of the world started attacking me the day after I announced. I would also note that we have close to 140,000 troops on the ground now, and my understanding is Mr Howard has deployed 1,400, so if he is (ready) to fight the good fight in Iraq, I would suggest that he calls up another 20,000 Australians and sends them to Iraq."

He added: "Otherwise it's just a bunch of empty rhetoric." :toast:

Beautifully done.

On edit: That was not a "low blow," though. It was a well-deserved slap right across Howard's cheeky, smarmy, Bush-kissing mug!

9. See how republics are targeting frontrunners
One of bush's friends - the same as the republics -. But do you see how the republics are bashing the front runner democrats already...Hillary, Edwards, Obama..As soon as one of the other democrats make a big splash they will start on them also. They are starting the swiftboating early.

It is a shame that we do not have an email address for Howard and load him up with irate ones telling him to shut up about OUR citizens and clean up his own mess.

39. I doubt it
I think Howard is capable of being an ass all on his own.

Bush should at least be smart enough (or have advisers who are smart enough) to know that a foreign prime minister getting into a pissing match with a U.S. Senator elevates the Senator and diminishes the PM.

Howard probably thinks he knows more about it than General Odom does. Probably doesn't read, just listens to W, loves sucking up to all of that Bush money. Fucking pathetic.

Don't let the oppo just say whatever and then kind-of, sort-of, maybe say something, anything, back to them, but - GO FOR THEIR WEAKEST SPOT and hit it hard with very specific information!!! Show the hypocrisy! Show their ir-rational minds!

Did you see him on 60 Minutes tonight? He sat with his arm around his wife, very relaxed, friendly, excellent stuff!

26. I'm starting to get enthusiastic. I haven't been feeling that about anyone else.
Enthusiasm also makes me more cautious.

That interview on 60 Minutes affected me quite a bit. Good close-ups on his face, his eyes, his mouth; it's hard to say what exactly it is that a person can read there, the non-verbal cues: thoughtful, calm, attentive. His body language with his wife was genuinely charming, not just window dressing.

This is just the sort of thing we need -- a candidate who won't sit meekly by and allow himself to be SwiftBoated into oblivion.

Seriously, I've been waiting to see if Obama would fight back against these attempts to create a meme of "Madrassa-educated former (?) Muslim Hussein Osama, the favorite candidate of al-Qaeda." It looks like that question's been answered quite well!

38. Obama's response was entirely correct.
Howard has stepped well over the line. Some of us got steamed up because a previous US Ambassador stuck his nose into our politics (on behalf of Howard of course) so Howard getting the slap for doing the same is fine with me.

:hi:

At the least, that is the way I understand it.

No one in the US is accusing Australia of not doing enough. You have been here at DU long enough to see any criticism if any about who's not doing enough. Have you read of any criticism here? If there is, I'll like to know.

The fact that PM Howard is preaching us on how to conduct our business is the problem. If Mr Howard is going to start that kind of dialog he needs to be prepared for a smack in the face with reality. If fighting a good war means 20,000 more troops, he can send them himself or he needs to STFU. I don't think Australians (or Americans)would like to sacrifice even one more of their sons or daughters.

One of my concerns about Obama was that he would be so wrapped up in his noble "coming together" vision that he would not be as forceful in slamming his opponents when the situation called for it. The FOX News thing and this are putting that concern to rest somewhat.
