Poll question: Just wondering: Have you ever smoked pot?
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 06:38 PM by Katzenkavalier
I have never done it. I'm afraid of most drugs, legal and illegal, including alcohol. Anything that messes up my thinking process scares the hell outta me. I would probably be one of those who would get a serious bad trip from LSD.

it is true that some people have reported feeling of paranoia or anxiety as a side effect, i don't know how common this is, i would think not very, but it is not worth the risk when you have anxiety anyway

I never really had. Doesn't make you the most enthusiastic social person in the world but for me there are mundane things I couldn't dream of doing not stoned. Working is a big one. Pretty much 99% of the time I was driving my cab I was baked beyond reason. You have no idea how many lives of arrogant drunks that saved.

was driving cab in Detroit.

I used to drive this one undercover vice cop around as he was picking up protection money at brothels and big time dealers. All the while he was rolling joint after joint, lighting them up and pulling them down. He was a crazy fuck. Tipped well.

25. It is not uncommon
for people who deal with anxiety to feel more anxious when they have smoked pot. This is more likely to happen in settings that would tend to create anxiety if they were not smoking pot.

Likewise, it is not uncommon for people who tend to not be anxious, but who have stress at work, etc, to find pot relaxing.

For the majority of adults, pot is fine. But there are many people who do better by avoiding pot.

44. You're making the right decision
If you start off being afraid of it, you'll probably have a bad experience. Marijuana is usually innocuous on an occasional basis, but I developed a bad reaction to it. I would mentally spiral down into a black hole. It wasn't like that when I first smoked it, but for some reason my reaction to it changed.

66. I prescribe Indica for you.
Know Your Medication

Indica has a higher CBD content to THC ratio and induces a more relaxing mood. This is a treatment for anxiety, pain, tremors and many more applications. Indica is most commonly used to induce appetite. Indica plants are normally shorter and stockier plants, reaching 1-2 meters in height and have wide deeply serrated leaves and a compact and dense flower cluster.

The effects of Indicas are predominantly physical although the relief of certain physical symptoms can have an emotional result as well. These effects can be characterized as relaxing, sedating and pain reducing. Indicas are generally best for later in the day or before bed.

Some benefits:
Reduces pain
Relaxes muscles
Relieves spasms
Reduces inflammation
Assist in sleep
Reduces anxiety and stress
Reduces nausea
Stimulates appetite
Relieves headaches and migraines
Reduces pressure inside the eye
Anti-convulsing agent
Reduces seizure frequency

Sativa plants have less chlorophyll than the Indica counterpart. It has a higher THC content to Cannabinoid (CBD) ratio and offers a much more energetic type of mood. Sativa is used most commonly to elevate a depressed mood. Generally speaking the Sativa plant is the taller and lankier variety, reaching heights of over 5-6 meters. It is characterized by narrow serrated leaves and loose spear like flower clusters that can be extremely resinous.

Primarily the effects of Sativas are on the mind and emotions. In this regard they tend to be more stimulating, uplifting, energizing, and creativity enhancing. These benefits can be particularly helpful for the psychological component of many illnesses. Sativas are generally better for daytime use.

Some benefits:
Reduces depression
Relieves headaches and migraines
Energizes and stimulates
Reduces awareness of pain
Increases focus and creativity
Reduces nausea
Stimulates appetite

6. You need a category for "yes, I used to in my youth, but no more."
I haven't smoked weed for 20 some years, but in the 70's and 80's, it was not unusual to smoke it a couple of times a month or so. Purely recreational, and frankly, as it got stronger and I got older, it lost its allure.
Today I get a buzz off one beer. LOL.
I'm a cheap date....

42. LSD lasts too long and unlike pot, you can't readily bring yourself down.
The first time you use it you may not feel anything. Depending on the pot it could be a head high or a body high. I have arthritis so I like the body high. It relaxes me, lowers anxiety, and takes my mind off my pain.

Of course if I am listening to some Miles Davis, a head high would be just fine.

Now that I am on Soc Security I can't afford pot so a shot of bourbon has to suffice.

It's the best thing I ever did. Things that scared the hell out of me no longer did anymore (like talking to a convicted murderer), since it helped me see things in a more 'real' way.

In my case at least, I think it had psychological benefits like it was initially intended.

Old stoner joke. I smoke it all the time. It is my only vice, I have done everything and tried everything but pot is the one thing I will always do. (okay psychedelics too)

I have some problems with depression and anxiety and it really helps with those. (eating it is another can of worms altogether). It is much preferable than prescriptions I have been given. They ruined my life.

The thing is you always know your stone. Seldom do I get higher than usual. So it is a maintenance thing. Couple of puffs and presto.....

I like to vaporize it more than smoking it. no smoke and less lung damage.

61. The first time for me
was two grilled cheese sandwiches (whole wheat grilled in real butter), a package of Oreos, a quart of milk, some chips and then the paranoia of, "Hmm, I wonder if I'll get back."
That paranoia goes away forever after a few ups/downs.

since entering the adult world of veterinary practice, I'll take the 5th.

It's in the same category as beer and wine to me. You can use it responsibly for personal pleasure, or you can abuse it. If you can't use it responsibly you should abstain.

72. Yes. I kept trying..for a couple of decades. It just made me paranoid. I gave up.
I get paranoid from pot.
Pot is the "hardest" drug I've ever used.

77. I haven't for years. Strongest thing I do now is caffeine. But it should be legalized, regulated,
and taxed. Abso-frikken-lutely.

79. The only thing that I have found
to stop spasms due to paralysis is pot. Since I began smoking every night before I go to bed, I have broken no bones, (my spasms were violent) and I can sleep a full six hours before waking.

From a paralyzed insomniac, that says a lot.

84. Allergic. but
I tried during chemo...no help for nausea and it made me itchy. :)
Legalize it. Tax it.

Loved LSD and mushrooms but it was ALWAYS in a controlled environment.
That was about a decade ago. No more for me...

I should also mention that I never even tried smoking, and I rarely drink alcohol.

Reality's scary enough for me.

88. No... I don't trust the stuff they sell around here.
But I might try it if I ever find some that I know is clean... Not laced with anything, no preservatives, no pesticides. I mean, so clean that even the CCOF would say, "Damn, this shit deserves a medal."

89. So you won't ever have to use it, I can give you an idea.
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 12:27 AM by alfredo
If you have a nice sound system sit yourself down in front of it. Put something on the messes with you, something that stretches time, like some Miles Davis. The second cut on his Jack Johnson album would be a good example.

Close your eyes and allow yourself to really go into a deep listen. Just give the music control. Pay attention to what the music does to your body. You can let your eyes open, your mind drift, just feel the music. Really get into the complexity, or focus on one instrument. If the music causes any physical reaction like a tingling or a start, then you get an idea of what pot is like.

Now go into the kitchen and spread peanut butter on saltines and pour a glass of milk. Really enjoy it.

do random mandatory drug testing on employees.
