FEITH: LYING US Into War Was - "GOOD GOVERNMENT"

Feith: Faulty Pre-War Intel Was ‘Good Government’

Douglas J. Feith, the former undersecretary of Defense whose Office of Special Plans was recently accused of pushing highly suspect pre-war intelligence to bolster the White House's case for invasion, yesterday appeared on Fox News to defend his findings as “good government”. The Pentagon’s inspector general wrote last week that the claims of Iraq-terror ties were so unsupported they amounted to an “alternative” analysis, and that Feith’s office discredited or bypassed any officials who might disagree with or undermine the findings.

..........

Feith sought Sunday to portray his office's actions as part of normal governmental give-and-take. He indicated that, in the months leading up to the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, he thought the CIA in particular was missing important ties between Al Qaeda and Hussein.

"It's healthy to criticize the CIA's intelligence," Feith told "Fox News Sunday." "What the people in the Pentagon were doing was right. It was good government."

According to the inspector general's report, the Pentagon policy office presented its findings to top White House officials when it had virtually no support for its assessments that "intelligence indicates cooperation in all categories" and that a "mature, symbiotic relationship" existed between Al Qaeda and Iraq.

1. Well... "It was good government."
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 09:31 AM by Hubert Flottz
Back in 1939 when Hitler wanted to rule the world. Just make up lies and invade and murder and plunder, because you are the Master Race!

Why are these remorseless serial killers still walking around free? And talking up the next invasion on FOX TV?

12. I watched that segment on Fox......
Feith was squirming but sticking to the line that they were only "criticising CIA methodology." He denied the stovepiping aspect.

It seems everyone in this administration has that frat-boy arrogance, Feith is no exception.

13. Feith is a Crusader
You don't arrest one of the boys, no matter how incompetent they are. It's just not done. They are beyond and above the Law.

He is on the Faculty at Georgetown, teaching budding Crusaders how it's done.

6. I kind of agree with what he says
But I don't think he really means it. In a good government you are going to have disagreements and people presenting those disagreements. The bullshit part is that, of course, it was the State Department that got shitcanned, while the bogus intel coming from the Pentagon was elevated.

The problem with presenting different points of view is that the guy at the top needs to be the sort of person who will sort through it with an eye towards getting the right answer. That's not what happened here. Bush wasn't looking for different opinions, he was looking for the opinion he had already settled on.

10. That is why there are nineteen different intelligence agencies
That is why they compare note and discuss the "facts" and come together in making assessments. There never has been a need to establish a completely different Agency that only answers to the Administration in direct conflict with the 1947 National Security Act. If there truly was such a need they would not have disbanded it under pressure from the Public..

15. I agree that ""It's healthy to criticize the CIA's intelligence,"
If all they did was "criticize" the intelligence? But, they did more. They took the intelligence and threw it in the crapper and created their own to replace it. Then they used their own "intelligence" to take our country to war. Now we see how right their "intelligence" was....

20. Incompetence implies that they didn't know what they were doing.
They knew exactly what they were doing; and in starting an illegal war of aggression they were, sadly, quite competent.

21. And when a defense attorney tells you that, you know we've crossed
the Rubicon, and the verdict is in. The question is, will the Democrats have the will to proceed with holding these people accountable/

Here's a clue: You've got to get the information out to the Fox News/Right-wing Radio audience. They're the ones holding up the show. They still have the power of an ignorant mob looking for a lynching if you don't fully explain what the Bush Administration intentionally did wrong. And I would add to that, that anybody (media) who defends this White House without presenting facts, should have his/her background checked just to make sure his/her opinion hasn't been bought.

17. "Alternative" analysis is the cornerstone of conservative thinking.
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 10:26 AM by Zorra
It's a nice way to say "deliberate lie".

The capacity of the conservative mind for self-deception is unparalleled. Conservatives need to make shit up to fit their narrow, self-defined conception of "reality".

A) Conservative has a delusion.
B) Factual reality is contrary to this delusion, making the conservative highly uncomfortable.
C) Conservative needs to alter factual reality to fit own world view in order to be comfortable.
D) Conservative self-alters factual reality to coincide with their delusion.
E) Self-adjusted reality becomes absolute truth to conservative.
F) When delusions are proven non-reality based, conservative needs to invent more delusions to support their previous delusions.
G) The conservative cycle of self-deception and delusion is perpetuated.

So if it seems to you like our government is being run by lunatics...well, BINGO!. Conservatives such as Feith are full-on fucking nuts.

The Emperor doesn't have a stitch of clothes on, but just about every conservative in the country will swear on a stack of bibles that he's dressed finer than the Pope on Easter.

22. And that's what a Struassian neocon does: lie
Lie because he's one of the elite -- and only he and his colleagues are qualified and entitled to really "know" what's going on and what should go on and direct society and government into the future -- and so it's his responsibility to lie to the public, for their own good.

Honest. Look it up. Shadia Drury articles.
