The Minn DA opposes Larry "Wide Stance" Craig withdrawing his Guilty Plea

Prosecutor: Craig Urged to Get a Lawyer

MINNEAPOLIS (Map, News) - The prosecutor who brought charges against Sen. Larry Craig in an airport sex sting says he told the Idaho senator that he should hire an attorney, according to court papers filed Monday.

Prosecutor Christopher Renz, in a motion opposing Craig's request to withdraw his guilty plea, wrote that he spent considerable time in a July 17 conversation telling the Idaho senator how the legal process would work if he chose to plead guilty.

"The defendant told Mr. Renz that he felt he was in a difficult situation as the result of the public office he held, in response to which Mr. Renz said that he appreciated that difficulty and for that reason the defendant should consult with an attorney," Renz wrote.

Craig, R-Idaho, did not, and eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He has since said that he was panicked into admitting to a crime he did not commit. A Hennepin County judge is set to consider Craig's request on Wednesday.

The DA in his opposition to set aside the plea IMO states some interesting things. One thing he says is that it is his position that Craig pleaded guilty in the hopes that the media would not discover what had gone on (paraphrase). I agree ~~ Craig did not panic as he states in his moving papers, he copped a guilty plea to a lesser included offense hoping that no one would discover what had gone on. This was not a panic ~~ it was a thought out scheme to avoid publicity for his arrest in a bathroom sting operation re: gay sexual activity.

I have the distinct feeling the court may deny the motion because of the grounds that Craig chose to support his withdrawal of the plea are total bullshit.

JMHO

Edit for grammatical mistake

2. LOL....
...good one!

BTW: Here is another intersting article with facts about what actually went on with Craig and the guilty plea:

Sen. Craig and prosecutor tell different stories about guilty plea

Like I said: It is TOTAL BULLSHIT that Craig panicked and entered a guilty plea.

3. Timeline of interest
11 Jun 2007 - Arrested
17 Jul 2007 - Advised by prosecutor to consult with an attorney
01 Aug 2007 - Signed plea agreement
27 Aug 2007 - Made public
01 Sep 2007 - Announces plans to resign

His constituents have got to be embarrassed having this guy as their Senator. They have got to know deep down in their heart that he is guilty. I'm sure there aren't that many fools in Idaho unless they allow the cows and sheep to vote too.

4. Thanks for the info.
It is nearly two months after his bust that Craig signed his guilty plea...and to me, that sure is NOT a state of panic.

Craig is lying is azz off in the motion to set aside the plea, IMO. His motivation was to hide the fact that he had been busted in a bathroom sex sting operation. Panic? GMAFB!
