Saudi "Virtue and Prevention of Vice" commision members pepper-sprayed by Saudi girls
"Head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the Eastern province Dr. Mohamed bin Marshood al-Marshood, told Asharq Al Awsat that two of the Commission's employees were verbally insulted and attacked by two inappropriately-dressed females, in the old market in Prince Bandar street, an area usually crowded with shoppers during the month of Ramadan.

According to Dr. Al-Marshood, the two commission members approached the girls in order to "politely" advise and guide them regarding their inappropriate clothing.

Consequently, the two girls started verbally abusing the commission members, which then lead to one of the girls pepper-spraying them in the face as the other girl filmed the incident on her mobile phone, while continuing to hurl insults at them."

It made me laugh.

3. Apparently, they were "cautioned" and released.

Which leads me to think that there's a lot more to the story than the article alludes to.

5. I'm told the punishments often take place within the confines of the family
I've read accounts of young women being drowned in the swimming pool by male relatives for "shaming" the family. Perhaps these were the daughters of wealthy families.

11. The ones who can't afford a swimming pool for drowning women in
resort to setting them on fire, I hear. Or throwing acid on them.

4. Well, good for them
Yet, I worry about repercussions too. Let's hope they don't get found out. Even better, I hope there's a run on pepper spray from the female population. ;)

I so hope that video shows up on you tube
If anyone see's it, please let us know.

And yes there probably was more to it.
like the commission members probably figured that since these
girls were dressed that way, it was ok to rape them.

After the peperspray stopped that, they probably
showed the clip to their superiors and told them they had mailed
the clip to someone else and if they didnt let them go
that someone else would go public.
How would that look for the committee for the promotion and prevention of vice?

Probably just my imagination but plausible.
why else would these girls get off with a warning in a nation
that jails people for drinking a beer or hangs them for smoking a joint?

13. "They broke the law"
They were out of control.

They were resisting the police.

They set up the entire thing.

They filmed the incident.

They are attention whores.

They probably have a blog about it somewhere.

This isn't about freedom. This is about two stupid spoiled whores who got what they deserved.

The police were just doing their job.

What do you expect the police to do?

Greg Palast hired them to do it.

Need I really add .... :sarcasm:?

16. I cannot believe you are trivializing the plight of women in a brutal theocracy like that.
Andrew Meyer is oceans better off than they are.

17. Are you really comparing women in Saudi Arabia
to a white male college student in America?

Do you really think that is a valid comparison?

18. Oh, I see its white male bashing time again
In case you didn't notice, Meyers was a victim of police brutality. In the Saudi case, the girls turned the tables and stuck it to the Man. Or are you saying Meyers got what he deserved for being a white male college student in America?

21. I'm not commenting on the whether or not meyers deserved anything.
And I'm a white male, so you can knock of that shit about white male bashing.

Meyers experienced one moment of persecution from law enforcement. Those girls live their entire lives confined within restrictive roles that are enforced by their entire society and the force of law.

What those girls feel and how they respond to routine, constant law enforcement efforts against them in their country has absolutely nothing in common with a once-in-his-life encounter Meyers had.

Please tell me where anyone was 'bashing' white men or claiming that Meyer 'deserved' anything?

Unbelievable. :wow:
