Tony Snow: "John Howard has free speech, and he's free to say what he does"

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2007/02/white_house_put.html#more

<snip>

It was a speech heard 'round the world: The Australian prime minister, a staunch ally of the U.S. in the war in Iraq, claimed that any withdrawal of U.S. forces would destablize Iraq.

"Yes, I think he's wrong,'' Howard said of Obama in an interview with Australian media. "I mean, he's a long way from being president of the United States. I think he's wrong, I think that would just encourage those who wanted completely to destabilise and destroy Iraq and create chaos and a victory for the terrorists to hang on and hope for an Obama victory.

"I mean, if I we're running al-Qaeda in Iraq,'' Howard added, "I would put a circle around March 2008 and pray as many times as possible for a victory not only for Obama, but also for the Democrats.''

"John Howard has free speech, and he's free to say what he does,'' said the White House's Snow, asked today about the prime minister's remarks about Obama. "The prime minister has spoken his mind, and it is what it is.''

2. And Obama's word is what it is as well
If Howard thinks withdrawing is wrong and wants to help stabilize Iraq, why not honestly talk about sending 20,000 troops from Australia like Obama suggested? Why not have Australia send 40,000 troops?

3. I have a question
Why does John Howard put so much effort in to aiding and comforting the enemy. How is he profiting? Or is it just to maintain power? Keep in mind the war is even more unpopular over there. He's just like bush and all the other corporate yes-men.
