Aging cheerleader Katie Couric has nerve to criticize Rather on journalism
STFU, Katie, you corporate hack
-----
Couric also weighed in on the lawsuit recently filed by Dan Rather against CBS, in which Rather alleges he was unfairly squeezed out of CBS by network executives following a controversial 2004 story about President George W. Bush's Texas Air National Guard service record. After evidence emerged that the story's primary documents were either faked or forged, Rather stated on air that "if I knew then what I know now, I would not have gone ahead with the story as it was aired, and I certainly would not have used the documents in question."

Couric took Rather to task for his reporting. "There were things in there that were quite egregious in terms of how it was reported," she said. "And sloppy work is sloppy work...They did not dot their I's and cross their T's when it came to that story...And our job is to get right."

Bush Bush he's my man!
if he can't do it Cheney can!

Gives the term "anchor" a whole new meaning.

Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye

but, I'm just guessing at that. After all, her sister did run as a Democrat against "Macaca Allen."

9. I'm not a couric fan but props to her for being the first female network anchor...
after that, I think she should shut the hell up on commenting on her predecessor, regardless of who it is. bad form katie, bad form.

15. I'm not a Couric fan either, but if she is aging, then Dan Rather
is elderly.

If you're going to comment about someone's age, make it equal opportunity.

16. Well, then why doesn't she do some real investigative...
journalism on Chimpy's military career?

Should Rather have used faked or forged documents? No. But, if what the documents alleged is TRUE, the Chickenhawk shirking of duty, then that is the important part of the story.

I'm still pissed off about this.

17. Whistling Past Her Own Graveyard
Katie's been a PR disaster for CBS since day one. While "perky" worked good with a cooking segment at 7am, Barbara Walters could have told her that it takes more than personality to be an anchor. Katie won over the bean counters, but never the critics...both right and left, and never impressed an audience that she's nothing more than a news reader. It was doing on the national level what local stations had done for years...making the news "friendly" with a female face...draw the women (supposedly) and this would be ratings gold. It's been a disaster.

I was never a Rather fan...but I did admire the man for standing up to Nixon and doing some serious investigative work over the years. His style never fit with me like a Bernard Shaw or Walter Cronkite, but one could never question his credentials. When he became the target of the right wing (almost the moment he took over for Cronkite) I respected him more...and I'm hopeful he wins this case and exposes the real truth about boooshie's AWOL years. Anyone who read "Native Son" years ago would love to see this story thoroughly investigated.

Couric is living on borrowed time. CBS's ratings continue to suck and the "law of diminishing returns" is about to catch up with her as the money she's losing for the network works against the amount of money they're paying her. Just like buying a free agent and finding the player isn't delivering for your team, there's that need/dream to use her and try to make things work than admit the whole sorry hiring was a big mistake. CBS isn't there yet, but it will soon.

18. How the fuck would she know anything about journalism...
What a stupid trumped-up little tart she is....

Hey Katie, stick with 'perky' and whoring for the * administration...it's what you're best at...

You are a pathetic, sorry excuse for a journalist....that's why you, and your "newscast" suck wind...

:grr:

what she says? The very reporting of this indicates someone actually watches her "news" cast. I don't believe it.

20. If Couric ever becomes a journalist, I'll listen to her
Otherwise, I'll accept her opinion with as much weight as my garbage collector.

Come to think of it, my garbage collector has more insight than Couric.

21. I disagree and agree
Dan Rather is not primarily to blame, though, but it was good for Dan Rather to assume responsibility for what he said on air.

Katie Couric is just a bubble headed blond (or pseudo-blond). She's gone from a lightweight morning program to way out of her league trying to do primetime. Dan Rather on the other hand is a great journalist.

23. As little as I think about Couric, she is right about 60 Minutes' bad reporting on the Bush story
It was Mary Mapes at 60 Minutes who didn't even bother to confirm the authenticity of Bill Burkett's source before airing the story. A total idiot.
