Verizon Wireless backs off NARAL censoirship
Edited on Thu Sep-27-07 03:19 PM by annabanana
Got this in response to my complaint about Verizon Wireless censoring texting from NARAL (abortion rights group)

Good Afternoon, and thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. I appreciate the time you have taken to contact us today. My name is La Toya, and I am happy to assist you.

A company statement this morning announced that the decision to not allow text messaging in this instance was incorrect. Upon learning about the situation, company executives immediately reviewed the decision and determined it was an incorrect interpretation of an early internal policy. That policy was developed before text messaging protections such as spam filters adequately protected customers from unwanted messages. The company has great respect for the free flow of ideas and will continue to protect the ability to communicate broadly through our messaging service.

(emphasis mine)

It's good to be that squeaky wheel sometimes. .

1. Good job. I was going to call them later tonight and tell them I would be gone
if they followed through with their decision.

2. I expect they heard from "a few" people.
It was an egregious slap in the face to a lawful interest group.

3. heh, amazing what a squeek can do.
good for them for responding in that way.

My guess is not some ancient policy with moldy oldy technology and spam, but an ultra-religious reichist who was in a position to make this decision, only to have it overturned from peopl above him/her/it.

4. Verizon is suspect for more than wireless censorship
Hi AnnaB,

I had posted a question concerning Verizon's censorship
of text messaging and God only knows what else they have
willingly participated in collecting.
I had a couple persons question my cynicism of all the
communications giants. The FISA laws have opened the door
to whatever the Bush administration wants, and what they
think they need.
Keep your eyes (and ears) open and be vigilant!
