Mychal Bell makes bail
UPDATED: Mychal Bell Makes Bail

Sep 27, 2007 04:52 PM

After a news conference by LaSalle Parish District Attorney J. Reed Walters and another impromptu conference by Louis Scott, Mychal Bells attorney it appears Mychal Bell is finally being released on bond.

Reed says he made the decision last Friday that he would not challenge the decision to overturn Bell's conviction but waited to make the final decision today after consulting with Justin Barker's family and other lawyers around the state.

Meanwhile Louis Scott, Bell's attorney, said he will be appealing the decision to recuse the judge saying there's no way he would be able to sit fairly through a new trial after sitting through one where Bell was convicted.

According to Darlene Garrison Narcisse who is with Cut-Rate Bail Bonding out of Lake Charles, she says she has posted $4500, 10% of the $45,000 bond, the judge issued for the bail of Mychal Bell.
At the courthouse is Al Sharpton, Martin Luther King III, Bell's parents and a host of Bell's attorneys.

Sources tell us Bell has been held at the Renaissance Home which is a juvenile facility in Alexandria.
We are told by the bonds woman Bell is on his way to Jena so that he can be processed and let go, walking out of the front doors of the LaSalle Parish Courthouse.

5. Good
What allowed them to keep him in jail when his conviction had been overturned? Am I missing a detail?

8. I don't really understand the reasoning.
We have a bunch of black and white kids fighting. Maybe one did get hurt, but it was not life threatening or even that bad. The black kid gets hauled into court and is indicted with attempted murder. The white kids weren't even charged with any thing.

Then we have the bush administration sanctioning torture, killing and bombing innocent people and 1/3 of the country supports them.

I guess bush got what he wanted. He got far right conservative judges seated on the bench.
