Where are we going to be a couple of years from now?
I was considering the present state of the Democratic Party. The Congress did OK over the summer, but they missed so much. As a Party the Democrats in Congress have made less use of the power we gave them in 2006 than most of us would like. The war continues, the economy falters, not rights have been restored. It makes one wonder just how much to expect from our own Party once we have full political power.

The candidates are all sounding like republican-light. Their main objective when seen together on TV seems to be avoiding expanding their policy arguments past the stump-speech stage. There's not one among them that make the heart thump a little bit harder, at least none that could get elected. The Republicans are like rats leaving a sinking ship.

No one doubts that come 2008 Democrats will have a sound majority in the House, a stronger majority then we do now in the Senate, and of course hold the Presidency. A majority of state Governors will be Democrats and more than two state houses will switch from Republican to Democrat. Its coming folks. The question is how much will we make of it? There can be no serious thought that the war can continue with a Democratic full-house, can there? We will certainly get single payer full coverage health care for everyone, won't we? The rule of law will return and our home-grown mercenary army will be put out of business, won't they? We'll get some sensible tax reform that rewards hard work as well as conservation and improvement of the planet, that's coming too, isn't it?

1. Two years in the future - what is and what if?
Hi ThomWV,

I read your take on the state of the nation politically now
and down the road. The hopes and the what ifs.
I pretty much agree with your conclusions on the general
states of political possibilities in the near future.
I hope we get to be a part of those changes and hopefully
that will be a positive part.
By the way, I'm a Thom from WV also, assuming your screen name
is taken from your real name and state.
