3. Why this coverage is so important....
I think while much of the public is aware that things were bad under Gonzo ... I don't think the reality (or even the idea) of what the politicization of the Department of Justice is fully registered in the public psyche. The Siegleman story gives a strong example for the public to 'get' and hang its collective hat on how serious a problem has been created in Bush's DOJ.

7.  Siegelman, Don—Subject of—41 Blog Posts = ADD one more R Senator, Lott of MS
Horton has written an entire series on Siegelman. Start with this to see them:

Siegelman, Don—Subject of—41 Blog Posts
http://www.harpers.org/subjects/DonSiegelman/SubjectOf/BlogEntry

Your Legal Schnauzer link is an interesting analysis of Horton's legal nosings. This issue just keeps growing like a well-watered mushroom. Those who said, "Look at the USAs that were NOT fired for the real crimes" may have been the most prophetic. And, now another US Senator has entered the scenario, Lott of Miss.

More Siegelman/Minor Connections
..... several key points about the Minor case:

* The charges brought by the government were sloppy and almost incomprehensible. Most public-corruption cases involve a quid pro quo, but that was not present here and was not even required by the judge.

* Circumstances around the selection of Judge Henry Wingate were "mysterious," and Wingate's conduct of the case was "aberrational." (Much more on this coming in Horton's blog and here at Legal Schnauzer.)

* Mississippi lawyer Richard Scruggs, like Minor, made loans to Mississippi judges but was not prosecuted. Of course, Scruggs tends to support Republicans more than Democrats (Minor is an ardent Democrat), and Scruggs' brother-in-law is U.S. Senator Trent Lott (R-MS), who might have played an improper role in protecting Scruggs.

* FBI special agent Matthew Campbell, a forensic-accountancy expert, was reassigned after questioning Scruggs' ties to Lott. ......

8. DId you miss Horton's coverage of Minor et al?
He references legalschnauzer and he has a series of articles on it

They tie, are part and parcel of the same plan of the RNC, politicizing the DOJ and taking out dem candidates and contributors.

To be honest, Hastings and Nixon were the testing ground for this plan. They proved effective and when GWB took office, the plan was expounded upon.

9. I went through all the Horton articles when I first found him. No light task.
So I knew of the other prosecutions/persecutions. I have not given this angle that much focus yet, esp. not the Trent Lott aspect.

I had been researching Siegelman for a while before the results turned up Scott Horton. Perhaps his writing did not rise high in search results because it is a blog??

MSM has overlooked or ignored these cases. The information has been provided to Conyers and Leahy, Horton mentions his attendence at a meeting on the hill discussing these concerns. Horton's efforts (and legalschnauzer's) have started to get attention.

Don't dismiss the oil/tobacco/insurance/pharmaceutical interests and they were able to please a good many corporate interests and donors.
