The General Public
That is the target. We sit here and argue with each other about what should or can be done. But the real target... the real goal is how to bring the ideas we come up with to the general public.

This used to be the realm of the MSM. But as they have become utterly coopted by Corporations and the need to shift everything to a profit motivation they no longer serve our interests.

Discussing issues with one another here and in other forums is a valuable thing. But the weakness of the internet is the fact that it is easy to find niches in which one feels comfortable. That may sound like a good thing but for getting the word out and for social exchange of ideas across strata it is a deadly thing. Because it is so easy to find a niche that feels comfortable instead of spreading an idea across the society we just focus it into our comfortable collection of comrades. In effect we wind up preaching to the choir. Oh sure the choir enjoys a good sermon. But what the society needs ... really needs... is to spread ideas across all strata and interconnection between them.

Isolation is the problem. Ease of communication leads to isolation of ideas. If a person is uncomfortable with an idea it is easy to go and find a place where such ideas do not arise. That is the danger of the net and why it does not serve our societies interests as well as we might hope it can. It is far easier to stick your head in the sand and hide from ideas on the net than it has ever been.

So what we here have to do is figure out how to convey the ideas we come up with to the general public without the use of the MSM or despite the Corporate control of the MSM. We need to find a way to convert the excellent flow of ideas we have here (in our opinion of course) into a stream of communication that reaches the world around us. In a large scale. We need to address our ideas to the general public if we want to have any hope of changing the path of this society and nation.

1. There is no general public
There are specific groups with various interests. Indeed, the myth of a general public has stifled our efforts time and again. It's an abstraction, and a bad one.

5. Correct
The internet has allowed for the on-line world to be the general public. In order to infiltrate the thousands of various interestes out there, one would have to dedicate their entire life to "spreading the word" to all corners of the 'net. There will be more opposition with the groups that are not in agreement with your oppinions and the word will not get through whatever barriers are in place.

If I were to be propositioned by any political party, I'd tell tehm to go pack sand up their ass. Find an honest politician in this country and I'll give you some of my South Dakota beach-front property for free.

It's basically us (the general public) and them (the public puppet masters) and the ranks do not intermingle. We have our interests and they have theirs...they mix like water and oil. A no-name schmuck would make a better president than any of the choices granted to us (by them) this next go around. It's obvious that the political elite aren't cut out for the job and there's nothing you or I can do about it.

The ideals that this country were founded upon are long since gone and trying to fool yourself into thinking that good nature and peace can be restored by (enter name here) is an excersize in futility to say the least. My apologies for the gloomy outlook, but that's the world through my eyes based upon the past and present. With everything that's going on, I'm suprised there are so many with a positive outlook today...they must be smoking some good shit.

2. As I've said
the only way WE can communicate with the general public about things we learn here is ONE ON ONE. If you can convert one or two people, maybe even bring them to DU, and they are able to do it with one or two more, you have a growing phenomenon.

I carry my liberal, anti-corporate attitudes with me everywhere, even at work. And I WORK for a corporation. When people complain about this or that, I gently remind them that it's corporate America in action. When they're sick and yet have to come to work anyway, I bring up universal healthcare.

I'm the guy who knows what's going on. When the explosion happpened the other day, I was the one with all the news--primarily because one of our good friends works for the fire department and my wife was getting updates on a regular basis. I was HOURS ahead of the news on it. It helped cultivate my mystique.

:D

3. I agree.
The democratic activists at the grass roots level can do the most when, instead of looking for instant solutions -- or someone else to institute a solution -- they undertake the yeoman's work ..... we need people who are willing to work on (re)building the foundation of our party. It is similar to the hard work needed to build a foundation for a house .... it is hard, tiring, and dirty. People driving by don't see the results of your work, and few others appreciate it to the extent it really deserves. But that foundation is the most important part of the building.

Nominated. I think this is an important OP.
