which is why I put liberal/progressive in my post.

Here's what it means to me: It means standing up for the rights of all people. It means working for a sustainable environment and living it as best you can. It means working to elect people that support those ideals. It means being against any war of agression for any reason. It means being wary of creeping corporatism. That's just a bare bones explanation.

Just as important is what it doesn't mean to me:

It doesn't mean you have admire or idolize any given "progressive" icon. It doesn't mean buy into an ideology wholesale, but thinking for one's self. It doesn't for example mean one has to damn all of western civilization. It doesn't mean one totally has to buy into the theory that all cultural traditions are good. I don't care if FGM is a cultural tradition, that's outweighed by the fact that it's harmful to women.

Hope you get the idea. And happily, it's not a club and I don't have to fit anyone's pre-conceived, judgemental idea of what a liberal or a progressive is.
