Jena Bush On Why She Is Not In Iraq
Jena Bush did the 10 questions thing with Time Magazine and someone asked her why she was not in Iraq. At first she gave the typical Republican answer; My talents are better suited for doing things like representing America in Latin America. Then she went on to say that it was not even "practical" for her to be in Iraq. I guess I am just one of those people who just cannot figure that one out. Can someone tell me how/why it is not practical for Jena Bush or her sister to be in Iraq? The full question and her full quote are listed below.

If the war in Iraq is so noble, why aren't you and your sister serving our country there? —Donald Pence, San Francisco
"I understand that point, but there are many ways to serve our country, and I think my skills are better suited for teaching and representing the U.S. in Latin America through UNICEF. I respect the men and women of our country who are over there fighting. It is an unbelievably selfless thing to do. But if people really thought about it, they would know it's not even a practical question."

2. really it probably isn't
every militant group in Iraq would be hunting them, so in effect, they would put fellow soldiers at much greater risk. No reason for more of our troops to die protecting those dumb drunken bitches.

8. Yes, just like Prince Harry. Doesn't matter that he *wanted* to go.
Going would have done more harm than good.

5. In another interview, she said that it was not practical because
she would be a target and endanger other lives.

Fortunately, they are NOT targets when she is here :sarcasm:

10. If she had enlisted in the Military that would not mean that she
would have been sent to Iraq &/or Afghanistan. There are a hundred other countries, as well as the US where she could have served.

12. she's right...
it's not practical. As much as her father is despised in that country, she would be a high target, not only for herself, but for the many other soldiers trying to survive just day to day. As much as I hate the fact she's right, she is.

It's like Prince Harry. Too much of a target, for himself and others with him.

16. What in God's name are you blathering about?
How fucking convenient. The offspring of those who force us into war, are now "too much of a target" to ever possibly end up on the front lines? Fuck that shit. How far down the line do we go? Cabinet members kids? Congress? How about the kids of the Assistants to the Deputy of the Department of I Don't Give a God Damn Who the Hell They Are?

18. Indeed. Every American in Iraq is a target.
Even those whose names we do not know. No reason Jenna shouldn't be one, too.

19. Even if she DID endanger the troops in some way by being ....
.."on the front Lines", She could certainly serve and work in a Military Hospital where she could see the ripped bodies produced by her Father's actions.

13. Representing the US in Latin America???
This was representing us?

Amid a growing barrage of front-page headlines, U.S. embassy officials "strongly suggested" President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their trip to Buenos Aires because of security issues, U.S. diplomatic and security sources tell ABC News.

But the girls have stayed on, celebrating their 25th birthday over the weekend and producing even more headlines about their activities.

Officials say the media coverage upstaged publicity plans for the new U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne, who had only recently arrived in the country.

Neither the White House nor the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires responded to requests for comment.

The Argentinean press blitz followed a report on "The Blotter" last week that Barbara Bush's purse and cell phone were stolen last weekend while dining at the popular San Telmo outdoor marketplace despite being guarded by the Secret Service.

Stories of the twins' visit took on wild proportions in the Argentinean press. One tabloid headline had the young women running nude in the hallway of their hotel, a report the hotel staff denied to ABC News.

According to sources, the U.S. embassy encouraged the two girls to cut their stay short because the added attention was making their security very difficult.

But to the dismay and anger of some U.S. embassy and security staff, the girls stayed on.

Thursday night, an ABC News producer was able to walk into their hotel unchecked and engage Barbara Bush in conversation while she checked her e-mail on a computer in the lobby. Jenna sat talking with friends on a sofa nearby. No Secret Service agents were anywhere to be seen in the lobby, according to ABC News' Joe Goldman.

And yesterday the Bush twins were spotted at the Sunday soccer matches, wearing team jerseys and sitting in the owner's box, watching Argentina's top team Boca Juniors compete. Several games have been canceled due to violence in the crowds this year. In fact, last weekend no spectators were allowed to attend the match other than season ticket holders.

Sources tell ABC News the twins plan to stick to their original itinerary and stay in Buenos Aires until Thursday.

29. Republicans have nothing but contempt for our military.
Bush's "looking for WMD in the Oval Office" skit should have clued everybody in to that. The rulers see the military as a tool to acquire more wealth and don't lose a minute's sleep over the thousands they have killed for no good reason.

30. Diff Between Harry and Jenna
Harry is actually a member of the British Armed Forces. True, Command didn't feel they could send him to Iraq because of the political target he'd make, but he is a serving officer who trained with other troops and who desperately wants to serve in his best capacity. He has been raised in a tradition of service even if he occasionally parties too hard (like many other soldier has done and will do).

Jenna Bush is nothing but a party girl who has done a little good in the world and is now Miss Thing because she's written some children's book. Big whoop. There is nothing preventing her from joining one of the services even if she never hears a shot fired. She and not-Jenna could still serve in some capacity just like the thousands of military personnel we have that aren't in a fire zone. Except, of course, that rich Republicans tend not to do that sort of thing. Her fiance isn't joining up either.
