Ann Coulter on CNBC Show: Jews Need 'Perfecting'
Editor and Publisher ^ | October 11, 2007 | Staff

Posted on 10/11/2007 1:23:10 PM PDT by america4vr

NEW YORK Appearing on Donny Deutsch's CNBC show, "The Big Idea," on Monday night, columnist/author Ann Coulter suggested that the U.S. would be a better place if there weren't any Jewish people and that they needed to "perfect" themselves into -- Christians.

It led Deutsch to suggest that surely she couldn't mean that, and when she insisted she did, he said this sounded "anti-Semitic."

Asked by Deutsch whether she wanted to be like "the head of Iran" and "wipe Israel off the Earth," Coulter stated: "No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. ... That's what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament."

Deutsch told E&P's sibling magazine, Adweek, today, "I was offended. And then, and this was interesting, she started to back off and seemed a little upset."

Asked to gauge her reaction, Deutsch said, "I think she got frightened that maybe she had crossed a line, that this was maybe a faux pas of great proportions. I mean, did it show ignorance? Anti-Semitism? It wasn't just one of those silly things."

A transcript, provided by Media Matters, follows. *

DEUTSCH: Christian -- so we should be Christian? It would be better if we were all Christian?

COULTER: Yes.

DEUTSCH: We should all be Christian?

COULTER: Yes. Would you like to come to church with me, Donny?

DEUTSCH: So I should not be a Jew, I should be a Christian, and this would be a better place?

COULTER: Well, you could be a practicing Jew, but you're not.

DEUTSCH: I actually am. That's not true. I really am. But -- so we would be better if we were - if people -- if there were no Jews, no Buddhists --

COULTER: Whenever I'm harangued by --

Just what she said

Ann Coulter thinks everyone should be a Christian.

I agree with her.

I would hope every Muslim would wish that everyone should be a Muslim. I would hope that every Jew felt the same way. I would be insulted if a Jew looked at me and said “No way. He can’t be a Jew”. If he said “I wish you were a Jew”, I would be honored.

The transcript doesn’t match what the headline says..... and it’s from a Monday appearance. If Ann Coulter really said this it would have been headlined across the country Tuesday morning. Then again it was an appearance on Donnie Deutch’s CNBC show (didn’t know it was still on).....

So much bullbleep. So little time.

“How would you revise it to make sense based on the contents of the article?” What a lame statement! As if anyone could “revise it to make sense based on the contents” of a Media Matters article? Why did you even post this junk?

I have no problem with that, it is your view. But this is not the reason to CHANGE the original title of the article.

Especially when the original title already twists what has been actually said.

Am I a bigot for saying that? Anti-semitic? Nope.

As a Christian, I am called upon and strive to love all people (and I sin miserably here) and part of that love is wanting to see them redeemed in Christ.

Ms. Coulter a wide berth on her views despite some of the bizarre things she'd espouse

Actually if you really think about the whole thing from a philosophical point of view, there is nothing wrong with what she said.

Hey, I am not a Roman Catholic, but former teacher ( a priest ) tells me that he prays for me a lot so that I would someday join the "true" church of Christ ( which implies that I am going to a church that isn't considered part of Christ's church )... am I offended ? Not one bit.

He sincerely believes that and for that, I respect him, even when I vehemently disagree with him. He is after my welfare, albeit in his on (IMHO wrong) way.

As long as there is no coercion and threat, simply the desire to convince and to see me convert, I am tolerant of it. Such beliefs have existed since the founding of this country and tolerance does not mean you have to agree with what a person believes ( as long as you are not threatened with anything ).

So, to those who are offended, I'd say their concept of the notion of "truth" needs some re-thinking.

Don Imus said something outrageous, and came away with $20,000,000, a 6 month vacation and a better place on the AM dial.

If you profess to be a Christian, you should be agreeing with Ann.

Christianity is the FULFILMENT of the Old Law (Law of Moses, aka Judaism). Christ came to do away with the old law. Read the book of Hebrews.

Coulter is right, from a RELIGIOUS perspective.

Media Matters is trying to make this a RACIAL/ETHNIC thing. Donny Duetch is clueless on this, hence his reaction.

Sorry but only one of them used to give her a wide berth, and now not.

Doesn't he mean giving Ann a wide stance?

I find what Ann Coulter said, an insult. Of course she makes statements like that to sell books. She has a right to say what she says but I have a right to call her just another gross Republiklan party bigot.

This crowd needs to get voted out of office and their syncophants like Ann Coulter need strong criticism in print and on television.

Imagine that, a worshiper of Jesus, who always lived as a Jew, who didn't come on to the scene centuries after the Jewish religion began, telling Jews that because she worhsips some Jew come lately, that I should begin to revere that Jew come lately as my savior?

No thank you. I find that offensive. I respect anyone who views Jesus as their savior, but when they say I have to revere Jesus to appear perfect or better or whatever, I draw the line and say, your beliefs interfere with my life and religion and I will not take it.

That is what I hear from Christians all the time. I'm a Deist, as a matter of record.

As far as I could see, most Freepers haven't rejected Ann. They simply rejected the fact that the person quoted an article from Media Matters, and only a few would bother talking about her comments if they didn't dismiss the entire issue as a Media Matters smear.
