If you can score in excess of 50% on this test, I'd be shocked. |
|
Pick a room in your house.
Any room.
Go in there and look around.
Count the objects that you see. Now count the objects that you see that are made in the USA. Now exclude old items, say stuff that is more than 10 years old. Now count the objects that you see that are made in the USA.
Is more than half your stuff made in the USA?
I'd bet not.

|
but even if it's not, it doesn't take much to get $250 worth of use out of a side chair know what I mean??
and yeah, the storage is an added bonus.....

11. My Office is the closest, I think - if you include the books - I pass with flying colors |
|
In terms of dollars spent, by far most was spent on US made stuff....I have Eames Office Furniture and an Aeron Chair....Incredibly high quality stuff. My File Cabinet is US made as well. I believe almost all of my books were printed in the USA too.

12. In every room but my office, the great majority is US made. |
|
I am funny in that regard.
We also live a very minimalist lifestyle.
Mostly handmade furniture and Art.
Even my kitchenware is overwhelmingly US (hand)made.
My music room is 100%.

Most of the stuff in my house, outside of books and magazines (and some of those, too) came second hand. I have no idea where they originated.
I suspect, though, that you are correct.

Georgia, the treadmill, tv and-not made in the usa.
edited to add--my kitchen cabinets were made here, same with the counter tops and the fridge which is 10 years old. My washer and dryer made by maytag are also ten years old and were made here so now i'm going to hold on to them for as long as possible. the plantation shutters on all my windows were all made locally and my awesome gas insert fire place/heater was made by Vermont castings. I do have more american made stuff than i thought i had but sadly when the appliances die they will be replaced by ones that are imported.

20. In my room, most of the furniture is American made, and |
|
very old. There's a table that was made in the Shetland Islands many years ago, and it followed my family to me.
My clothing and backpacks and dog leashes though...that's another question.

.... our house is mostly furnished with old stuff that we've bought over the years. We have a few new pieces, but not very many. We love art deco and much of our furniture is from that era or from the Depression. My parents' first bedroom set is the newest we have .... and that's from 1946. The other bedrooms are all pre-war, with our master set from the early 1930s.
Our dining room is the same era, but our kitchen set is chrome and vinyl and over the top from the 50s.

Actually I do pretty well. I've been mostly jobless for the past five years or so. During that time I have made a determined effort not to buy stuff that I didn't need. I have largely avoided shopping in big box stores. I've discovered a store about a mile from my home that carries only goods made in this state.
With the exception of the laptop, all of the electronics are old. Most of the furniture is antique. As is much of the dinnerware and bake ware. Curtains? Handmade locally. Knickknacks and wall hangings? Products of local artists. Cabinet and drawer pulls in kitchen and bath areas? Handmade by a local glass artist. Stained glass? Made locally. That would include some cabinet doors as well as several lamps and lighting fixtures. Candles and soap? Made locally. Gas logs? Made in Oklahoma. Lawn furniture and lawn ornaments? Made locally. Some California wines and some Jack Daniels. American made. Guitar and amplifier? Handmade by Americans to custom specs.
It is still possible to buy US made products but it takes effort. You won't find these goods in the big box stores.

26. I'm just the lucky outlier |

All of my furniture is American made and built like a brick shit house. It's also only about 7 years old. To emphasise how small of a crack I fall through, for the last 5 years I have been a total anti-consumer and was never very keen on throwing my money around, unless it was for big boy (and not so big) toys.
