True religious Jews are not offended by Ann's comments |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 11:38 PM by RamboLiberal
In a post on her website, Debbie Schlussel claimed that Media Matters is "anti-American, anti-Israel, and funded by George Soros, a Jew who proudly worked for the Nazis rounding up Jews and sending them to their eaths." She also wrote, "I believe Donny Deutch was lying about his own religious status" in the interview, and that she "doubt that" he is a "practicing Jew," because "his show is on live during the Jewish Sabbath, and keeping the Jewish Sabbath is the most important commandment for a religious Jew to keep."
Contrast that with the villain here: Media Matters. It's anti-American, anti-Israel, and funded by George Soros, a Jew who proudly worked for the Nazis rounding up Jews and sending them to their deaths. Hmmm . . . him versus Ann Coulter? That's an easy choice. I'd much rather go with the woman who looks like an Aryan but is a friend to the Jews and their allies than the billionaire atheist Jew who's lived his entire life like a Nazi.
Again, if she is not bothered that I think that as a Jew, I'm one of the Chosen People (and she isn't), I certainly can't be bothered in the least that she thinks that Jews must be perfected to Christianity. I think the fact that far too many of my fellow co-religionists have substituted unabated liberalism for Judaism is what gives so many a platform for questioning us, though I don't believe that is what Ann was doing here.
And for the record, I believe Donny Deutch was lying about his own religious status. When Ann started down this road, and Deutch got so "offended," Ann asked him why he doesn't practice his religion, Judaism. He responded that he is a "practicing" Jew. I doubt that, since his show is on live during the Jewish Sabbath, and keeping the Jewish Sabbath is the most important commandment for a religious Jew to keep. I believe most religious Jews would not characterize Deutch as a "practicing" Jew, not that it matters, but since we're nitpicking along with the self-appointed nit-watchers here . . . . I, for one, enjoyed Ann needling him on that, since he needled her.
True religious Jews are not offended by Ann's comments, though they really appreciate her alliance with our causes. It's only the Jewish libs, like Deutch , who are feigning this shock and outrage. That's because she's a threat to their real religion: liberalism.

|
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 11:49 PM by MannyGoldstein
My understanding (from an orthodox education) is it means that the Jews were chosen to get the Ten Commandments, not that we're better than anyone else in the eyes of The Almighty.
And, Coulter is a pile of human refuse - she was my classmate at Cornell, where she made her mark by helping to destroy a "shanty town" that had been built to demonstrate against South African apartheid.

Don't pay any attention to her. She's a neocon enabler and irrelevant.
Edited to spell the bitch's name correctly...not that she deserves it. Edited also to add that I know what "the Chosen People" means too, and it's not what Schlussel implies. She is pandering to Bush's fundie base with that one. They are all furiously jealous of the alleged "Chosen People" status of the Jews (what they think it means anyway) and want to co-opt it in an old theological game they invented known as "replacement theology." In reality they wouldn't last two minutes as part of the "Chosen People." They just plain aren't tough enough.

Coulter is that she knows it's crap, but she doesn't give a damn because her target audience is a pathetic group of freeptards whose intelligence is impossible to insult because they haven't got any. As long as she keeps tapping into and reinforcing their prejudices, they'll buy her books. She and Rush have a really good thing going. |
If you want to know where I most often heard the phrase "true Jew," it was in my debates with Xtian fundies on various Interfaith discussion boards...the SAME ones who wanted me to become a "perfected" Jew by converting!!!
This bitch Debbie Schlossel is obviously a neocon enabler and I don't give a rat's ass what she thinks about my observance or lack of it. The bitch didn't make me Jewish and she can't take it away from me either!

We each walk our own path, I can discuss my faith with people if they are interested, otherwise, to tell them the 'true Jew' and the 'become perfected' is hostile.
I pray for all those, who do not believe as I believe, but I have many friends who don't even believe in God. Some fundies think that's heresy to even associate with them.

as it is!
Re We each walk our own path, I can discuss my faith with people if they are interested, otherwise, to tell them the 'true Jew' and the 'become perfected' is hostile.
It's beyond hostile. It's also condescending, and as a matter of fact deeply INSULTING, to even suggest that I would have to change my religion in order to become "perfected." That was the true nature of Ann Coulter's insult, i.e. she implies that we are somehow "not okay" with God the way we are.
As you say, we each walk our own path. How would Ann Coulter (or you, for that matter) know whether I'm not already on my own path to perfection? I would never call myself "perfected" because that would be unbelievably arrogant and just not something I could say with a straight face.
But by the same token...Ann Coulter is suggesting that SHE is "perfected" because she's a Christian or claims to be? PUH-LEEZE! If that's "perfection" I want NO part of it...EVER!
I pray for all those, who do not believe as I believe, but I have many friends who don't even believe in God. Some fundies think that's heresy to even associate with them.
So you're admitting to being what I call a fundie. I guess I should warn you that I'm a battle-scarred veteran of MANY online religious wars with your kind, but probably of the more aggressive and obnoxious Coultergeist variety.
I have a lot of friends who don't believe in God either, and many of them are Jewish by birth. But when you're Jewish you learn early to deal with Jewish atheists and aren't in any way shocked or put off by them. And you don't think of them as any less "Jewish" than you are either! I guess that's hard for an outsider to understand.

If someone disagrees... buy another round and listen to them tell about their beliefs, and by the time that round's done, maybe someone else with a third belief will show up to join in! So much the better - more ideas, more things to think about :-)
If someone declines, as opposed to disagreeing, then yeah - move on to something else. :-)

"the martyred," seemed to be willing to live and let live, by conceding he/she would also resent any attempts at conversion. "Live and let live" is all I've ever asked from anyone, but too many Christians just can't seem to take NO for answer. I didn't care to discuss my beliefs any further because for one thing I meant what I said about absolutely, emphatically not wanting to hear any "Good News." I've heard more than enough already to last me a lifetime, and believe me I am NOT interested!
Another reason is that my beliefs aren't "pure" Judaism anyway (not even pure liberal Judaism, if there is such a thing) but a unique syncretistic hodgepodge of Judaism, Christian Gnosticism (yes!!!) and Paganism...in other words, ALL the major elements that make up Christianity--but always considered separately. I can't abide the prefabricated mix and can't imagine myself ever reciting the Nicene Creed.
This actually works for me, but it's the end result of such a unique set of life experiences I wouldn't even know where to begin explaining it, let alone "convert" anyone to it!

It can definitely be some messed up stuff! About a decade ago the old Prodigy News board (politics) had a local reputation for being the meanest board on the Net. That's where the biggest flame wars took place--several times a day, in fact. But the SECOND meanest board on the Net was the Prodigy board called Debates/Religious Issues on RelCon 2. That was my "home board" and I spent hours there every day. I came so close to a nervous breakdown on several occasions that I'm amazed I'm still around to tell the tale!

38. That she is, and if she's ANY kind of a Jew at all as she claims to be, |
|
she knows good and well that the way she's defining it is WRONG!!! The state of "being Jewish" has absolutely nothing to do with liberal or conservative, observant or non-observant. At bottom it's a tribal religion, after all. So in this area of who is or is not a Jew, the rule is matrilinear and goes all the way back to the ancient pre-patriarchal tradition. So a person is considered to be a Jew if his/her MOTHER was Jewish.
If anything, the Orthodox are even bigger sticklers on the matrilineal yardstick than more liberal Jews. They will accept a person from a nonobservant background if his or her mother was Jewish, but if it was the father the person has to go through the formal conversion process. For a long time the Reform and Conservative movements followed this rule also, although recently Reform congregations have been willing to accept "patrilineal" half-Jews like my late husband if they make an effort towards being observant.
I'm not saying the Orthodox don't judge nonobservant slackers like me pretty harshly. Oh, they think I'm a VERY BAD Jew and tell me so at the drop of a hat, but they would never say I'm any less Jewish than they are. Both my mother and father were Jewish, so by their own rules, they CAN'T say that.
Debbie Schlussel knows all this as well as I do but is deliberately glossing it over for her fundie Xtian readers. In other words, she's a liar and a fraud.

Jesus does not meet the criteria established in the Old Testament for the Messiah. The Messiah has to do lots of stuff, like bring peace to the earth.
Details: www.jewsforjudaism.com
I'm not Jewish but I can see the logic of following the rules of the OT which do not let Jesus be the Messiah. Christianity started out as a small heretical Jewish sect, but grew thru political power.

is not to be taken literally any more than Israel as an actual, physical country is.
In the end, listening to exoteric sources to explain the meaning of ANY religion will lead one astray.
And those who take religious texts written in a symbolic language literally tend towards directions leading to fundamentalism and division.
