A question for the Hillary supporters among us |
|
Would you still support Hillary if there was an attractive, bright progressive woman who had great name recognition and was against the war--both the one in Iraq and the coming war against Iran, and against torture; and most importantly, have a chance of winning both the Democratic nomination and the general election?

Yours is an academic question. The truth is that your candidate doesn't exist, and her successful candidacy is purely wishful thinking. There's a lot about a Hillary Clinton presidency I probably won't like very much--but I think that a Hillary Clinton presidency would be far, far better for the US and for the world than another four years of vicious, arrogant, partisan, stupid, and incompetent Republicanism in the White House.
I suspect that Hillary is a lot less flexible than Bill was---but unlike the fellow installed after Bill left on January 20th, 2001, Hillary is at least reachable and teachable.

11. my point about attractive isn't at all sexiest |
|
attraction is far more than just physical appearance, I think we all realize that but we also realize that it is far harder for a less physically attractive person to go as far as a more physically attractive person. Take Dennis Kucinich, he he by far the best candidate for this country--at this time. He is right on every issue (at least as far as I am concerned) but he has the unfortunate looks of a tall Kibbler elf. He doesn't look like "a president" and he isn't going to gain our nomination. He is in good company, good ole Abe wouldn't be able to gain any party's nomination either.

14. I could vote for fat, old and ugly |
|
but not too old, I will never vote for a candidate that is in her 80's I would have to think real hard about one who was in his 70's. However, in the age of television, attractive will always beat out unattractive

that is exactly my point. I think we are in need of a woman president and to the Obama supporters I also think we are in need of an African-American president, I particularly like that he has a Muslim heritage, I also like the fact that Bill Richardson has a Hispanic background. And a Feingold presidential run would put me in state of ecstasy that I'm afraid I could never recover from. I love the notion of diversity in our nation's top position.
I wanted to love Hillary as a presidential candidate. However, I am largely disappointed in her. In my mind, if you are wrong on the war and torture you can't be right on anything else. I want to vote for a woman president, how disappointed I am that it has to be Hillary (if she gains the nomination.)

I don't know the name Goldwater at all and I think Stephanie Miller might be on AAR but I don't have access to AAR.
Where do they stand on the war, torture, children's health care and the social safety net for poor families?

20. Oh. Sorry about that. The post was an attempt at wry humor. |
|
Stephanie Miller's a progressive/lefty comedienne who hosts a show on Air America Radio. Funny as all get-out, by the way. Her father, in 1964, was the running mate of Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater.
CC Goldwater is the granddaughter of Barry Goldwater himself. She and Steph are pals, I think. Anyway, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, they've launched their own campaign for the presidency and vice-presidency. Their slogan says it all: "Family name. No skills. Just like W."
I'm pretty sure their position on these important issues would be:
War: very bad Torture: extremely bad Children's Health Care: good Social Safety Net for Poor Families: good

She will be a far better president than the idiot we have in office now. Is she the best candidate that is running-no way. And one of the things that gives me the most concern over her future presidency, isn't her fault and she has no way to correct it--Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton. How very unfortunate that she is related to Clinton, the first. Not that there is anything wrong with that--we just need greater diversity than what we have had. If we could just have 16 to 20 years between former presidents and their relatives.
