Bush v. Gore: Poppy's Bad Weekend

Bush v. Gore: Poppy's Bad Weekend

Posted October 13, 2007 | 08:50 PM (EST)

Imagine being George Herbert Walker Bush this weekend.

While he watches the world honor Al Gore for the Nobel Peace Prize, George H.W. Bush watches countless replays that make him look ridiculous, waving his arms and calling Gore the Ozone Man.

Then he watches the evening news, when a retired three star general accuses his son of dereliction of duty and suggests that if Bush 43 were in the American military, he would be court-martialed for what he has done during the Iraq war, which the Nobel Laureate had opposed.

Tough weekend for George Herbert Walker Bush, who would probably trade sons if he had the chance.

Enough to make a grown man cry.

1. I wish Gore's dad was still around to enjoy this
Whatever brings all Bushes pain brings me pleasure. Bravo Al Gore.

3. Enough to make a grown man cry, yes.
Enough to make Poppy cry, no.

Poppy's just a smarter, earlier edition of Junior. Another narcissistic psychopath.

5. He doesn't give it a second thought. That would require a conscience
or a heart. He wrought this all on us as much as any other single person. Remember that Twilight Zone where Billy Mumy is th omnipotent mind ruling kid? King George I didn't just sire this monster, he put him on the throne.

12. To try a few of the 1000, there's something so weird about that pic
The contrast between Poppy's over the top absurdity of a pose and the troops appearing totally anesthesized, disconnected...

9. I don't see why he should care.
Seriously, I don't sit around being envious or jealous of what other people have done.

Sometimes I'm happy for them, if I like them, know them, or support their cause(s). If they got in my way, I may be displeased with them, that happens on rare occasion.

But, by and large, I go along with whatever I have to keep myself busy and don't give them much thought. Since I don't typically define myself and my happiness by what others do and have, it's simply something I don't understand.

It's not arrogant: There's no reason to dismiss the other person as wrong or somehow defective. It's merely a question of pragmatics: There are more than 6 billion people on earth, what basis do I have to take the measure of man, whether that man be me or somebody else?

10. Be glad you don't
You're not remotely like him. The whole Bush clan saves up slights and resentments like cash money.
