In this case, hoarding all sorts of unimportant nothings as framed awards, basically...

10. One of the SNL players was bubbling around as Al.......
pointing out (deminishing) Al's Emmy's, Oscars, Nobel....

If you diminish that award for ONE....you diminish it for ALL the recipients, past and future.....

These DEVILS, and THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE ~ DEVILS ~ want to steal from you and me (AND IN THE BACKGROUND, I still hear SNL snarking at a *good man*, such as AL, or Dennis, or Russ, or Edward K, et al (a FEW of you)

8. Glad I haven't watched that show in years.
Ok, someone told me SNL was good again, so I watched one skit: it was not funny at all. :boring:

Even the Joe Piscopo years were much better than the adolescent tripe produced by NBC nowadays. That horse has been dead for decades. :eyes:

30. Ditto.
They're all "establishment" types, now ... no 'edge' and no insight. There's not a 'counter-culture' perspective on the whole show. It's cheap shots and infantile, playground jeering.

It was excellent in the 70's and early 80's ... and had true satirists. They're all Drew Carey wannabe's now.

I loved Belushi, Radner, and Carlin. Chevy Chase and Dan Ackroyd have never been as good. Andy Kaufman was a comic genius. Garret Morris was incredibly versatile and Jane (you ignorant slut) Curtain was marvelous.

55. No; it was a parody of the old "Point/Counterpoint" with James Kilpatrick and Shana Alexander.
"In 1971, the "Point/Counterpoint" segment was introduced, featuring James J. Kilpatrick and Nicholas von Hoffman (later Shana Alexander), a three minute debate between spokespeople for the political right and left, respectively. This segment pioneered a format that would later be adapted by CNN for its Crossfire show."

11. Darrell HAMMOND has been doing this to GORE since 2000, yet
when he went to Shrub's first White House Correspondents dinner, HAMMOND was intimidated by CHEENEE, who caught him before the appearance and terrorized him against slamming Shrub in any way. HAMMOND went on to put in a nervous, sweaty, nondescript routine. He goes on talk shows and whines that people like us take his stuff too seriously, that he is "only a comedian." Yeah, but almost always skewering our side.

They made fun of an Emmy-winning, Oscar-winning, Nobel-Peace-Prize winning PERSON, ~ who *just happens* to have democratic leanings.

I don't think anyone 'other than you and your *kind*' needs to do any more "growing up"......it's all about politics and demonizing anyone who's on the "wrong side" of the *money* ...hehehe

49. What in the world are you TALKING about?
They make fun of Bush and Cheney every other week! Hammond does a wicked Cheney in addition to Gore & Clinton. And LAST week, they tore Larry Craig to shreds.

They made of Gore VERY mildly--he's a guy who's won an unusal amount of awards lately, so they were satirizing that. Nowhere did they say he didn't DESERVE said awards, right? So what's the problem? Have you forgotten the famous "Gore as President" opening LAST YEAR? Rest assured, they liked him then--and they like enough now to have gone easy on him tonight.

I'm GLAD they're not kissing his ass too heavily. Obsequity isn't funny. While Gore is my idol, in the world of comedy (of which I am a part), EVERYONE is ripe for ribbing.

I repeat, grow up.

I pretty much gave it up because I wasn't terribly impressed with the current cast...so it really wouldn't surprise me if the skit sucked.

But c'mon this idea that Al Gore should be immune from being made fun of is ridiculous.

Edit: Damn, I originally posted the same youtube video as ProgsRock. So here's an entirely new post.

Yes, SNL poked fun at Al Gore. It's what they do. That doesn't make them Bush butt-lickers. It wasn't a very good sketch. In fact it wasn't even a very good episode. This is the first I've seen this season, I hope it's not all this bad.

But seriously, SNL makes fun of all public figures, especially politicians. They always have and always will. Have you ever seen Darrell Hammond do Dick Cheney? You might like it. How about Will Forte's GWB? Not exactly a flattering portrayal is it?

They picked on one of your heroes. Don't go getting your panties in a bind, they'll be picking on your enemies again next week.

Not that supporting Kerry automatically makes him un-lame, of course. But he's a good guy.

And I dispute the statement that he is the bottom of the barrel. I only know one Bon Jovi song so I speak not as a music fan but as a shallow person when I say that IMHO Jon Bon Jovi is extremely easy on the eye.

It was a pretty mild ribbing of Gore. Not terribly funny in my view, and unfortunately very little in the rest of the program was any better. Funniest part was in the opening, when Richie Sambora forgot his one and only line.

77. I'm sure gore liked the segment. Let's face it, if SNL spoofs you, you've
made it.

78. exactly ... he's appeared on the show several times
Even if he thinks that they could have done a much funnier sketch, he is too professional to hold it against them. (Which is more than could be said for * -- I was listening to Stephen Colbert's description on Larry King's show, of what happened during his speech at the press dinner last year ... when Colbert glanced over at Bush during the video clip, while they were both off-camera, he saw Bush staring at him, not laughing.)

64. I thought the skit gave Al Gore, Rush Limbaugh's humility,
I didn't think it was funny either. I generally like Darell Hammond, but his impersonation seemed a bit rusty.

I did like the News Update part where they said the Supreme Court took it away and gave it to Bush.

68. SNL really does suck now.
I realized when I started watching Mad Tv and noticed that I actually laughed at it out loud instead of sitting through 13 minute skits and saying "how ironic. zzzz". I realized it when I saw that mad tv only had a 1 min opening credit instead of the 5-6 minute opening credit self-love fest. I realized it when I noticed that mad tv really trashed celebrities while SNL worshipped them.

I remember seeing Mad tv when it first came on and saying "this will never beat SNL". Well, that day has come and gone.

Imagine a satirical show satirizing a popular culture figure!

The nerve of those people, I just can't believe it!

Some of you guys need to get a grip, I haven't watched SNL in years, but getting your panties in a bunch of over a satirical sketch of Al Gore is just ridiculous, it isn't anything that anyone with their head squarely on their shoulders should even be upset about.

75. I was more upset that The Foo Fighters only got 1 song.
They should never be second booking to a half rate country act like Bon Jovi.

I actually thought the Al Gore bit was pretty funny. They do rip on everyone on the show.

84. SNL is among the most liberal shows on TV.
Those that say it's with Bush can't possibly be serious.

They went extremely easy on Gore. I think one "Anti-Dem" sketch amongst 100s of anti-Puke sketches suggests that SNL doesn't exactly lean towards the right..
