1. Name something that is good for the Democratic Party that is not good for America
I'm curious what this would be.

7. Again, how is this actually good for the Democratic Party?
I think we're looking at this the wrong way. Who's saying it's good? How is it good? Reframe the argument and reclaim the party.

13. It is the power brokers that own and run the party, and they just love it the way it is.
We're just an annoying inconvenience that they have to deal with every two years to keep the dollars rolling in. Maybe once, long ago, we were the party, now we're just the facade of legitimacy.

15. Well, I refuse to let them have it
I will keep voting for what I believe in, and I will also keep voting for Democrats for national office. They can't have the party, any more than the right-wing can claim to be patriotic Americans. I am a Democrat and an American and I'm not ashamed to be either. That doesn't mean I don't disagree with some of the things done in the name of both. But this cartoon sums up how I feel about it:

17. "We" haven't been a significant factor in the Party since at least the 60s.
I'm not sure that your refusal really matters at this point.

Once the "party leadership" was able to actively work against their own candidates, and get away with it, it was all over.

24. Well, I would say after seeing the results for the last 40+ years that @ least a change
in strategy is called for, don't you?

25. Perhaps
But that doesn't mean we can't do it from within the party.

5. (Well, just off the top of my head...) Joe Lieberman on the national ticket?
Edited on Sun Oct-14-07 04:37 PM by TahitiNut
:eyes: Are you saying that you can't come up with an example of your own?

If you don't like THAT example, how about the damage and destruction wrought by the GOP?? After all, hasn't the death of one million Iraqis been framed as "good for the Democrats"??

Hmmm...?

(It's interesting that you had to ask.)

6. Really? You think that's good for the Democratic Party?
Well, that's where we differ. I don't think anything destructive to the country and the world is actually good for the Democratic Party.

It's interesting that you put that in bold type. I don't know what it means, but it's interesting. :)

Figures? What does that mean, TahitiNut? Tell me how you really feel.

You've decided you know what I mean and who I am without listening to anything I say.

23. You didn't answer my question either
How is Lieberman being on the national ticket good for the Democratic Party?

Yes, I voted agree. I'm sorry; I thought you had already decided that and I didn't realize I needed to confirm it.

And my other question, which maybe I didn't explicitly state, was what is it you're trying to imply about me with the "interesting" and the "figures" and the "funny thing"? I really don't think you're paying attention to what I'm saying, and I'm not sure why you're almost deliberately taking what I say the wrong way.

You asked a question, but don't seem to want any answers other than the one you approve of. Can't we have some actual dialogue about this?

2. Any time a group starts thinking that, they aren't good for the USA.
That's just a jingoistic translation of "We are beyond reproach",
and I call "BS" on it whenever, wherever.

3. Disagree.
Individual Liberty is what is good for America.

Supremacy of The People is what's good for America.

Should the Democratic Party ever decide to stand for that, we may have something to discuss, until then...

8. That's true because the Party says it's true.
Kinda like the bible says that there's a kind, loving, benevolent, God, that will toss you on the eternal barbecue if you don't believe in the Bible.

10. Oh, let's see: hmm. For starters, Social Security under FDR, the GI bill and VA loans under Truman,
the Civil RIghts Act, Medicare and Medicaid under LBJ.

C'mon folks! These are real accomplishments that benefits real people. Tell a RWinger thatyou will take away his SS and Medicare, not to mention his veterans benefits (if he has any) and you'll get an angry and confused reaction.

The pubs have done jack sh*t for the American people. Americans have benefitted materially under the Dems so I proudly voted "yes."

Don't you all see that?

18. It seems you're trying to answer another question and not the one posed.
Are simple syllogisms confusing to you? Is math tough? Ever take a course in logic?

Nevermind. It probably seems like Greek.

I have that funny way of doing so, but it makes perfect sense to me.

Hmm, let's see: a squeak from Mr. Nut or my post graduate degree awarded with Honors?

My turn now with the emoticon

Have a wonderful day...

... were those good for the Democratic Party? For America? I'm not asking a "should" question but an "is" question.

26. You said "is" present tense, so I was thinking of current issues
and the upcoming 2008 election. Certainly Democrats aren't the only ones to have done good for America, but IMO what is currently good for America is also good for Democrats.
