Kucinich: "If Congress does not impeach President Bush for intentionally misleading the public, the next president should hand over Bush and his administration to law enforcement officials"
By Associated Press

Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich has urged Congress to put an end to the war he says is a "gross immorality."

"The way to end the war is this: The leaders of Congress must go to the president and say, 'Mr. President, we are not going to give you another dime. Use the money you have to bring the troops home,"' the Ohio congressman said.

Kucinich told the crowd of more than 500 people that if Congress does not impeach President Bush for intentionally misleading the public, the next president should hand over Bush and his administration to law enforcement officials - a suggestion that was answered with cheers and a standing ovation from the audience.

Kucinich said he would create a policy of "strength through peace," which would focus on diplomacy, open dialogue and "at its core, would reject war as an instrument of policy."

Kucinich: Get Ready to Read Bush His Miranda Rights

Submitted by davidswanson on Sun, 2007-10-14 18:16. Criminal Prosecution
Kucinich speech at Latino Congresso, via MyDD

I'm so grateful to be with you this morning. It's such an honor. When I am with this community, I realize the real connection I have, from the heart, (el corazón). It's a connection that transcends the issues, but it connects us to the issues at the same time.

When I started my career in politics forty years ago in Cleveland, the Puerto Rican population was growing, and there were a lot of problems between that community and the police. And so when I finally got elected to city council with the help of the Puerto Rican community, the first thing I did was to take a Spanish language course, so that I could better understand and communicate with members of the Latino community. One of the things we first discovered in the city council was the fact that the police were arresting Latinos without reading them their rights, in direct violation of the Miranda decision. So if someone didn't speak English, they didn't have any rights. The police didn't understand that even if people couldn't speak English, it didn't mean that those people shouldn't have rights. So I was responsible for causing the Cleveland Police to have to learn the Miranda rights in Spanish and carry a card with them.

Now the people in the Administration of George Bush better remember their Miranda rights, because when I'm elected President I'm going to see that they are arrested. I'm not kidding here! I want to let you to know something; how I feel about what's happened to our country. We have been led into a war based upon lies -- an unjust a war. We've seen our civil liberties taken away because of lies. The President, the Vice President, the Secretary of State, and the Secretary of Defense are all part of this. They're going to be held accountable under the law. If someone runs a traffic light, they'll get a ticket here. There are a million dead Iraqis and almost 4,000 dead American soldiers as a result of this war. Where is the accountability? What's happened is that our constitution is being torn up. And in this toxic environment, the Administration, in its never-ending quest for more scapegoats, focuses on immigrants. You know it and I know it. And we see, unfortunately, the failure of the Democratic Party to stand up to this Administration.

Dennis Kucinich, what do you think?

but I must caution DK that the more of a threat he becomes to them the more they may threaten him and I don't think it will be with words they will threaten him with. The republicon party has become very dangerous and I still remember who was targetted by the anthrax with no convictions, what a surprise? They may do it a different way than with anthrax too so I do hope that DK is being carefull. We need his ideals in this government and the republicon party better take note here that they need to back down off of their coup efforts and hand back this country to the people without harming a hair on any possible candidates that speak truly of how you scumballs are. I don't threaten here as I am not the threat.

I would love to hear pledges from our Candidates to persue investigations and indictments AFTER 2008, but I have a cold, sinking feeling that the rich, white criminals will allowed to go free with their loot....

...just like after another Clinton was elected in 1992.

94. So vote for him in the primaries anyway.
The worst that could happen is he won't get nominated and it'll go to the one you probably would've given your vote to anyway so give it a shot. You see if everybody votes for who it is they actually want that's how people get elected and not this projected opinion others give you that it is a waste. We are talking primaries here as the republicons aren't getting in because of a primary vote within our own party. Don't be swifted out of who you like because others are telling you the currents don't flow that way.

21. Right on, Dennis.
I wish all the candidates had this level of outrage and determination. I'm so afraid that IF Bush/Cheney/Addington leave the White House in 2009, nobody will follow up with the clearly mandated criminal prosecutions. They all deserve to go to prison.

23. DK's heart is in the right place, but I'm not sure about his head
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 12:54 PM by onenote
I have no problem with DK's campaign, quixotic as it may turn out to be. Getting the antiwar message out in the debates and on appearance on TV is great. And as long as he endorses the Democratic party nominee when all is said and done (something he did in 2004 and something that I expect all of the party's candidates to do), he's okay by me.

But his statement that he will "see to it" that chimpy and gang are arrested is not a very well thought out statement. We've just gotten through beating the crap out of chimpy and gonzo for the lack of independence of the US Attorneys. And now DK is announcing that as president he's going to tell the US Atty's office who should be arrested? Not so smart.

61. Dennis believes in rule of law
Dennis is the only candidate who believes that rule of law is more important than politics. The others cannot do the same because they voted to enable Bush in this illegal war.

There is another, and if the two are rejected and band together as independents, then all fucking bets are off.

Edit: Welcome to DU. :hi:

82. That's right!
I don't think he's the only one that believes in rule of law,
But he sure sticks to his guns, despite politics!
We need more like him, as in people like Feingold & Kucinich!

Welcome to DU! :hi:

65. Suggestion here....
...since Kucinich is unlikely to get the nomination, the next President, who will be a Democrat, should name him as Attorney General.

That should scare Motherfucker George Bush and Shitstain Dick Cheney over to their redoubt in Paraguay and Saudi Arabia.

72. Just imagine:
They are all extradited from Paraguay and locked up at Gitmo where they're the only prisoners because the others have been freed. What a great fantasy!

66. The very fact that a Representative says this is testament to the crimes committed.
This is not just idle talk. I don't care who is electable or what kind of light this puts Democrats in. What this signifies is an underlying layer of criminal activity by the administration.

76. Let's do it Dennis and show Georgie he's not exempt from accountability
:hippie: Awesome. Dennis Kucinich has always struck me as a man of integrity...a trait that the Executive Branch is void of today. He was fantastic on the Cobert Report. He is one of the few candidates I could look the world in the eye and proudly say, "This is my President!" I'm new to the DU and know that shift is happening because of people like us. Plenty of petitions to sign for Redress of Greivances... http://www.givemeliberty.org/rtplawsuit/SignPetitions.htm

83. Nice idea and all
but I'll say no.
Bush has done many things I disagree with but its clear the democrats don't have the votes to get an impeachment through and focusing their energy on it would be a waste of time and resources they can better use on other things.
One day after Bush is out of office I hope he is brought up on charges and tried before a jury because he does deserve it in my opinion but impeachment just will not happen with the republicans still controlling as many seats as they do, you wanna make him pay though even if he never goes to trial then make sure to vote, make him see what he and cronies decisions will cost them.

87. He resigned just before he was going to be impeached. That took 2 weeks to make the case!
That doesn't mean that because he bailed out that the Senate wasn't ready. They were. That's why he resigned.

That IS the point, isn't it?

It doesn't take months, it takes facts and we have them already.
