Impeach does not = ending the war. It does not = stopping bush. |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 07:39 AM by cali
I support the impeachment of bush and cheney, but not because it will achieve any given end. I support it because if bush/cheney haven't committed impeachable offenses, the entire question of what is an impeachable offense becomes a joke. So I support it for the future. It sets, I believe, a terrible precedent not to impeach.
But it won't stop the war. And it won't stop bush from bombing Iran or doing any number of criminal and criminally stupid things. In fact, it could make him even more desperate and rash.
I support impeachment even though I believe, the likely result would be that bush walks and is exonerated. And make no mistake, that would suck big time.
The likelihood that today's republicans would vote to impeach or convict is slim. And the evidence does NOT matter to them. Nor do they think they'd suffer politically for not voting to impeach or convict.
Conflating ending the war or stopping bush from bombing Iran, with impeachment, is a mistake.

1. I want it for the rule of law and the constitution. |
|
I figure the war, even in its falsity, will at some point come to a head on its own, especially if there were to be an impeachment inquiry and the lies made clear.

2. Yes. That's what I was getting at. |
|
And for me, not raising the bar to ridiculous heights for future presidents, is a significant factor.

4. I don't give two shits for what anyone you, me or the next person thinks will happen |

with emphasis on WILL. I want to see Impeachment and I want to see it started yesterday or at the very least today. Our country cannot be a country of laws if these war criminals are allowed to walk with out us even trying to stop them. That cannot stand. If he/they are found not guilty and allowed to walk anyway then so be it at least the attempt was made, plus thats the American way. We cannot be a country of laws if we let a man make the laws, Wo/Men yes, Woman/Man no. I really don't want to hear what might, emphasis on might, happen I want to hear what time the proceeding start and nothing else.
nothing personal, ok

7. Yes, we need to get the Impeachment rolling. |
|
For the sake of this democracy. The crimes need to be securely placed in the historical record, with each lawmakers vote for/against them.
I fear the next President and the next if the power grabs and abuses are not reigned in, D or R.

10. The war will end whe Bush and Cheney are impeached and REMOVED |
|
and they WILL be convicted if the mountain of evidence is presented during the hearings (a big "if", for sure) The political pressure on Republicans to convict will be enormous and will cause them to flip. No one thought it would happen during Watergate, either, but aren't we glad that didn't stop the hearings?

11. Removed yes. Impeached no. |
|
Or have you forgotten Clinton's bombing campaign while the impeachment process was ongoing?
And you're dead flippin' wrong about the repukes and Watergate, where repubs weren't only on board, but instrumental in the hearings and introducing articles of impeachment.
Name one republican Senator who would vote to convict. The votes aren't there. They won't be there even if bush was found in bed with a dead boy.

12. Clinton and Bush have the same instincts? |
|
And how exactly am I "wrong about the repukes and Watergate"? The obvious point is that Repukes will act accordingly if the evidence is clear enough for their constituents to demand it. Are today's Republicans politically fearless in their devotion to Bushco? I seriously doubt it.
